ok so today about 40 minutes ago i get into my tacoma to drive and it wouldnt shift out of park.

i also noticed the air bag indicator(little red guy with a circle) was on, the indicator on the dash that tells you what gear your in is also not on and the A/C wasnt blowing cold air(looked down and the lights on the A/C button and the recycle air button were out)

i was close to the toyota of el cajon dealership so i drove on down there and everything else was working at this point.

i get there and fill the rep in on what just happened. he asks a few questions back and pulls up my truck info after i inquire about the airbag light i described to him. guess its a spiral plug cord thing(truck isnt on the list for replacement lol).

my truck is a 2007 DCSB sport prerunner has 85k miles i bought it used from certified toyota in santee and it had 76k when i bought it. its still under the 7 year 100K warranty and the extra care warranty.

he told me i might have to pay up to $210 for some service fee depending on what the problem is and suggested leaving the truck and i get a rental(i cant afford one so i opted out of that).

he said they might not even get to it tomorrow.

long story short i made an appointment to come in on tuesday.

now when i left the dealer the turn signals stopped working and the engine light came on.

the hazards still work and the headlights work. it still drives normal.

    now for some back story.
about a month ago i took it in to have the A/C blower motor replaced cause it was working intermittently.

    only paid the $50 deductable

only mod i could possibly seen even remotely affecting this is the day time running light mod but i dont think that would affect the system since its a toyota part that came from toyota.

other electrical mod i have is dust lights but that does not tie at all into any computer part of my truck. i dont even know if the drl mod goes into the toyota computer.

anywho im soo lost and im kinda worried. i bought a certified truck to avoid having problems and now im having problems. haha

anywho any words of wisdom would be much appreciated.

with warranty you should have no charges. ever. you have major problems it sounds like. the airbag light is all i have experience with and it was covered under recall. 6-lug trucks 05 to early 09 i believe to be covered.

what about the dealer you bought it from?

he said my truck wasnt on the list.

i went to the original dealer to have my front window tints removed(to stay legal) and they sent me to toyota of el cajon.

im assuming cause they only sell used certified toyotas

    campershell? aftermarket trailer plug?

This happened to a company truck we have (Tacoma). It was a pinched wire running to the third brake light on the campershell. Repaired wire, replaced fuse, done deal.

nope all stock. although now that you mention it on a desert camping trip a few months ago i got stuck in some soft sand and sunk onto a rock that folded the trailer plug bracket and exposed some wires on that but i immediately fixed the bracket and wrapped the wires with gaffers tape.

nope still have the stock jbl system.

Check your fuses? Spiral cable is covered, my 05 was. Like someone said earlier, you shouldn't be paying to have work done under warranty. If they keep trying to give you the run around, tell them thanks, but no thanks and you'll be taking your business elsewhere. Btw, try giving speed freak a holler, he might have some insight on what's wrong.

the warranty isn't with toyota, is it. i didnt consider that earlier

the beauty with electrical problems is that they can all be fixed. not rocket science. the hard part is the time. multi-meter and a book is all you really need. i dunno if ttora might have the elect. books? i would guess something major that feeds the instrument cluster is grounding prior to cluster. DC is kindof easyish. helps me to think of it like my piping, supply and return.

although none of that matters to you if your warranty works out. sorry if im rambling/ stating useless info

Any chance you live in an area known for pack rats?

haha its all good. i hope the warranty works out too

you know i thought about that. ive never had a problem with it before nor have had any friends or family with that problem.

i know at a campground near by they had issues with squirrels but no squirrels in my neighbor hood cause theyd be picked off by a cat anywhere on my street.

I haven't had any electrical problems related to pack rats, but I have had them eat my air filter. Had another one make a nest INSIDE my muffler. I realized what happened after I parked from a short drive and could smell what I could only describe as beef jerky and a little smoke coming from the tail pipe.

According to this: both the signals and hazards are on the same fuse. Since you did the DRL mod, it would seem the cause of the turn signals not working is most likely in the general area of the flasher that you installed. The turn signal switch does not go through the spiral cable, it's fixed to the steering column.

If I were you, I'd pull the dash apart and recheck everything you did when you installed the DRL. I suppose you could have a turn signal switch fail, but not at the same time as all these other issues. I vote for pinched wires or (most likely) a loose connector in that area.

Experience with cars and with home appliances (my job) has taught me that weird electrical problems are almost always due to someone messing with the wiring after the item has left the factory. Re check ALL your wiring you have touched. And, if you feel like it, check the stuff the dealership touched too. I'd hate to see you get charged two hundred bucks for them to reseat a connector that you've had your own two hands on.

Okay! Just thought I'd ask. Something about hooking up the elimination wire (dimmer) that makes the whole guage cluster go screwy and/or blow out.

Ask me how I know! :D

Any resolution to this? I just had the same damn thing happen, only mods I have done are the fog light(now back to stock) and moved my trailer harness into the bumper. I am out of warranty and would appreciate any advice you can give me.
