Hah, no mercy, no chance for the dealership to make it right. No care.

First oil change at dealership with 4600 ('12 4cyl) miles on it, was prepared to hear 'You don't get your oil change until 10k', and that indeed happened. Guy double checked and admitted he was wrong. I was clear then about 0w20 synthetic because I couldn't trust him to know what I needed.

Got the truck back and drove to a nearby gas station, read work sheet and saw 5w30 was used. Couldn't see oil level because of how bright it was out (and clean oil + how shiny dipstick is) but I opened the filler cap for fun and a curl of smoke or vapor came out, not sure which as I couldn't give it a whiff - the entire engine bay smelled like hot oil since they spilled so much.

Checked today on level ground and it's just above the low notch. So, would have had me take the vehicle to 10k had I not known any better, used the wrong oil after I even specified, and didn't use enough. I feel sorry for the people who really don't know any better and since this is one of the biggest dealerships in Denver, I decided to just let corporate know. Even if it's not a big deal, it pisses me off - brand new truck and my biggest 'debt' to date, and they fuck up. I always do oil changes myself but hearing how good Toyota's synthetic was, and how high of quality their oil filters are, I decided to let them do it (oh yeah, it's free and I now have a giant car payment to worry about).

Hard for me to be a dick about most things in life but I'm not going to be nice or forgiving at all. Just not sure what to ask for, I'm not going to drive it back to the dealership 70 miles away on the wrong oil and I'm not going to pay for another quart of the wrong oil to get it up to level. I honestly would like free filters and 0w20 for the remainder of my 'free oil change' perk, they can actually save $ on their shitty labor costs and rotating tires/topping off fluids. We'll see where this goes.

I'm sure you could call corporate and work something out. Most dealers are trash, good luck bud.

Heh, this one seemed nice, it's enormous. You drive up to the service lanes which is like 6 wide, many people running around to say hello, offer you a bottle of water, pancakes and shit being cooked inside the lobby by someone dressed as a chef. Popcorn, snacks, water at all hours (noticed when I was there to purchase). It's a damn nice building, but the employees?

Toyota dealership service dept's suck...but for some reason they fear corporate. Also i would go over to the sales side. I was having a problem with my tranny that they said wasn't under my drive train warranty. A hydraulic line to my clutch blew. I said" will the care drive with out it?". They said no. I said " well then, looks like it's part of the drive train then." They pushed the issue. My buddy used to own a few dealerships in MASS, so I asked him. He said " go to the sales side. They have leverage over the service side. They don't want complaints. I did, and ten minutes later the service manager was all apologetic and they fixed it....worth a try.

They screw you the first time and you trust them enough to keep going back for the remainder of the free oil change "perk"?

First, the banana gif above is the best message board icon I've ever seen.

In my case, that "perk" helped me make the decision to buy a brand new vehicle. You would assume the dealership is better than the jiffy lubes and other 10 minute oil change places, so I still felt like I was making a better decision than 90% of folks. I will not trust that dealership to do shit, even change the current oil in there, unless I speak to the goon who manages the ten other goons who manage the 30 subgoons. After they make this right, they still will not have earned my trust. That's why I'd like them to just give me the filter and the oil and I'll do it myself. Since they ruined my peace of mind, another huge reason for buying new, and since I can never get that back, it's not going to be that easy anyway. I know dealership service departments typically suck, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt and was even very clear on what needed to be done when I honestly shouldn't have to be. Since they still fucked it up, we're going to war. I emailed corporate and will call them tomorrow since they're open til 4 PST.

I understand. Once the trust has been severed it's hard to go back. Like you said the dealer should be a better option than a quick change place. I think you'll find that the more you can do yourself the better off you'll be. Good luck.

Could have done it myself blindfolded after doing hundreds of oil changes, a few motor swaps, and even tuning Subarus. $ was the main reason - I went from $0 payment to $350/mo, and I was very close to getting a jug and filter and doing it myself til I read the thread that dissected oil filters and compared to OEM toyota. I also live in a complex now and feel like a donald laying under my car sweating my ass off in 100* summer heat with all the cute college girls walking by. I'll suck it up in the future, but I'm going to get my peace of mind back come hell or high water.

Any real girl who is worth 10 seconds or more of your time knows that only a man's man changes his own oil, and that those who have others do it for them are the same guys that frost their hair, wear shirts two sizes too small, and know the names of the ineffectual cast members on the Jersey Shore. Pfft, forget about those fluzies!

Hahaha :amen: I most certainly got some looks working on Subarus in the lot, but I think when I stood up and revealed the sweat mark covering every square inch of my back the intrigue was lost. Working 80 hours a week (for 40 hours pay) kind of... puts you in a dry spell. Dry spells cause loss in confidence. Loss in confidence, much like marijuana, leads to twinkies.

By the way, living in a college town in Colorado makes alcoholism a serious joke. Also, the Jersey Shore thing seems to have hit hard and lingered in Fort Collins as well. With that said, I seriously wonder how anyone maintains a vehicle here at my age. Very few people seem to be motivated to do anything but chase tail or get drunk (or gel hair and try to do both). In coming years I'm entirely confident that Colorado will be home to the largest number of liver and engine failures in the continental US. There are some damn good brews around here though!

Dealerships piss me off. I switched to a Cai 2 days before I took my truck to the dealership for a blown speaker. On inspection they said my filter needed to be replaced. Morons!!!!!!!!!!

Then my grandpa went to the dealership and they found one of his brake rotors were broken. They brought the rotor in to show him. It clearly had a hammer taken to it. You could tell by the impressions on the metal. Needless to say he had to pay for it. No more dealerships for me.

I would assume a bigger dealership would kick ass too, just because of how much $ it would have taken to get a dealership to the point of six service lanes and a free meal during most hours of the day. Apparently not. I was a 'service adviser' for Sears and actually quit with zero notice because I was all about honesty, and they were not. It's not that hard to do things right (or make sure your techs do things right), especially with most answers a google search away. Sometimes, the answer is right on the fucking oil filler cap. Still get emails weekly from Sears asking if I need a job, even though I'm on the do not hire list. Responding to each and every one of those is part of how I alleviate stress  Do not fuck over anyone, even old ladies!

Bah, on hold with corporate again now while she tries to contact a closer dealership to take care of my truck. So she's still suggesting that I'm going to have to put more miles on an underfilled truck with the wrong oil to get it changed out.

I mentioned wanting the materials to do it myself since my personal experience and many other's experiences (including comments like 'dealership service centers suck' in this thread) leave them untrustworthy and she acted like that would be more of a risk to my warranty to do the work myself incase I screw something up. I LOL'd and said I would have never mistakenly put the wrong oil in my vehicle, especially when it says right on the filler cap what it takes.

She hasn't made any suggestions as to what I can do until a service center makes things right (since it's saturday at 3:30pm, may not be able to get seen anyway). I told her I have the extended $$$ warranty, toyota care til 125k that includes rentals, but she didn't seem to bite on that.

I'm not really cool with having a few goons say 'Yeah, it shouldn't have hurt anything' - of course they'd say that. They used oil that shouldn't have been in the vehicle, newer vehicles are less tolerant of incorrect oils, and the smoke under the filler cap, she has no clue on that. Even if they change it out today that doesn't give me my peace of mind back. That comes back with a new motor that was never fucked with.

She's all about informing the original dealership and letting them try to make things right with me, but I don't want them doing shit to the truck anymore. If I hear back from their service/customer care big wig I'm not going to just shrug it off, he can give me a new motor or new truck

    Opinions?

Edit: LOL, I have 45 minutes to get to Toyota dealership nearby for an oil change. They will charge me $60 and some change. WHAT THE FUCK

im hoping my trip to the dealership on tuesday doesnt for my p0705(transmission range malfuntion) coded truck.

that wont shift from park, lost a/c, turn signals not working, and apparently needs the spiral cable for the air bag that for some reason is not covered according to the service guy but it says its on recall all over the internet.

i hope my experience isnt fucked and expensive
