So after a recent camping trip I realized that I need a set up that goes with me. I would do camping along with off roading and surf fishing. With a RTT above the bed there is no trailer to pull long with no maint and insurance but more weight while wheeling. Trailer with RTT has the things mentioned before, but can leave it at the camp site. Pop up has all the convenience, but can be heavy and expensive and costly to own. Ground camping and loading everything into the bed and unpacking.
So undecided about what to do

I use a truck tent, works great other than taking it down to go anywhere but it makes any place you can park your truck a camp site

Do the m416 with RTT. I think that would be the coolest setup. Luxurious camping space, off the ground, plenty of room for you plus storage in trailer and truck bed. All you gotta do is unhook it and away you go.

Hell you can even take that thing offroading with ya.

One of my friends just ordered one of these. Supposed to pick it up in a month or so. Moby1 trailers are modern version of the old Tear Drop. Comes in a model with off-road capability which he's getting. Got an axle to match the FJ and a set of wheels and tires that match too.

    Compact for sure.

after a few bad experiences I decided I would not be utilizing an option other than hardside. Any tent based product is just not for me.

Thanks, it has been nice. It extends the camping season quite a bit. Its really just a hardsided tent with a queen sized bed heat and AC:D

No idea what he's getting but they range from $5k on up to $15k.

He's done a bunch of the Colorado passes. I'm guessing he knows what it's capable of. Not sure I'd want to smash it into trees tho. That's a lot of coin to waste

Gotta say, when it rains, hard sided is awesome. Tent camping or sleeping in the truck just sucks in the rain.

To run the AC would require a generator but its there if you really need it.
