At least it's in a box. I worked on one job where they had routed every wire on that side of the house into the wall behind the kitchen cabinets, wire nutted them all together (no boxes), then put the wood paneling back over it all. Then they slid the wall oven into the cabinets to hide the whole mess.

The reason I found this is because I worked on this guys' wall oven. I pulled it out an inch to remove the control console without scratching his cabinets. Then I slid it back an inch. Well, his stove top quit working after I left. He called my boss and blamed it all on us. Turns out there was a loose wire somewhere back in all that mess (that I did not know was there). We found it after we pulled the wall oven out. That took an hour due to having the flexable cable that came with the oven pulled tight as hell to reach the junction box they had installed behind the drawer beneath the oven. It was the only junction box on that wall other than the one's holding the 120v outlets.

I left his oven in the middle of the kitchen floor and told him to call an electrician to repair the connection. There was no way I was going to fix it and take that liability.

how many wires are you allowed in a junction box?

 

For the box pictured (4" oct x 1.5") you're allowed a max of 10 current carrying conductors (#14 awg). 2 or 3 marrettes count as 1 conductor, 4 or 5 marrettes count as 2 conductors.
