The "Duck Commander" Phil Robertson is coming to my town this weekend. We have a annual thing called the Sportsman's Banquet. Kinda like a kickoff to hunting season every year with a little church included. They give away lots of guns, gear etc. Can't wait to meet him. :D

Wanted to share some of the days rewards from Tennessee's Early wood duck/teal season. Saw a lot of teal this year more than in the past. Love these pretty creatures.ImageUploadedByTapatalk1347127955.516711.jpg

Also, after 12 seasons, I've finally got my first band. Some new lanyard jewelry.

ARGH... Gonna miss opening weekend in Washington, I have to go to England and drink large amounts of British Cider for work... Oh well, maybe I can shoot some english birds instead (birds are women in the UK).

Buck Gardner Double Nasty 2 is good for around $30. It gets loud! I just bit the bullet on a RNT Alpha 2 which is about 4x that $$ and it sounds great but it drops off fast on the low end. That's fine though - I don't hunt timber so most of my calling is hail/feeder calls at high ducks. I'll eventually pick up a single reed to work the ducks up close.

so just checking in from AK, so pumped to hunt up here this year. growing up i used to hunt the Wister Unit at the Salton Sea Wildlife Refuge. i got all my deeks ready to go for this season, and i might even be getting a 14ft duck boat so i can hunt some of the islands off of kodiak. im ready to shoot, im not used to being able to hunt any where i want. the island of kodiak is pretty much all open. im used to hunting the public land or our private duck club.
if anyone is looking for some snow goose full bodies my buddy just started is own decoy company and is making some really top quality stuff

    xmas came early

Depends on what type of spot you are hunting. For flooded timber, stick to double reeds or reed and half. For >$20, Haydel's DR-85 is a nice raspy sound. I like the Echo Calls, too. I hunt with a "hybrid" it's an RNT wood mouth piece and and polymer reed insert with shaved double reed for loud raspy four timber/field.

My belief is, if you want to know what a duck sounds like and get a call to match, grab a really nice video or audio recording device and head to the closest refuge. Then go and find one that you think sounds like a bunch of ducks.

I've never really liked the Duck Commander series calls as they are tough to blow right. But I've loved his videos since they first came out and the family is genuine.

Just placed my order for the Duck Commander Fleece Lined Pullover for $35 on the Drake waterfowl website. Should be a good enough jacket for the first month in Montana. Pretty excited to see how it works.

There is a down jacket on there for $100, anyone suggest anything different for the later months in MT? (November, December)

Counting the days until the season starts.

I hunt geese though out the Colusa area in the Sacramento Valley, and I hunt ducks on a private pond right next to the Sacramento refuge on Norman road.

    Cannot fucking wait.

Here's a little teaser...my go to dekes are all on Texas rigs hanging in the garage for easy access :) GHG Pintail, Widgeon, Teal, and Gadwall...I honestly don't even own any GHG mallards...a few G&H ones and some cheap Flambeau Storm Front cuz they were like $20 at Cabelas. What's funny is I waterfowl hunt MAYBE 10 times a year :( I'm one of those that just watches for someone that has land and birds, but no equipment...hello me :) my lease is too cheap to pass up, but as you can imagine, even with a limited number, it gets overhunted :(
