    Ok, i'm at the drawing board. Watch out.

    Everyone says that combining lifts is bad for front end components, specifically using OME 885 coils with Bilstein 5100's set higher than ZERO. This makes sense, kind of.

    Here's my setup:
    - OME 885 coils, with top plate.
    - 5100 shocks, set at ZERO.
    - Do NOT have diff drop.
    - TC UCA's - not on now, but will be in a week or two.

    If I understand correctly, the diff drop lowers the CV angle to accommodate lift.

    If the diff drop = 1 inch, and the .85 setting on the 5100's = slightly less than an inch..

    Is it safe to say that I can add the diff drop, and raise the 5100's from 0 to .85 to achieve a little under 4" of lift and not have any problems with CV angles or anything else? Seems to me this would work, but I'm no mechanic.

    Can I get some expert opinions on my drawing please?

    The only thing that comes to mind is that you'll have a stiffer front end since youll be compressing the springs an inch, but other than that I dont see a problem

    Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...
    i think u'd still be applying a greater pressure to the lower ball joints as well as a greater angle on the uca/uniball when u get it

    i had my CO's at 3.25" w/ a diff drop and the fins were all over each other

    You are forgetting that a 1" diff drop only drops the diff 1/2" at the axels.

    I took that into consideration also, i figured i'd do it and see how it rides.. (rough ride)

    Presure on the lower ball joints isnt going to increase. The weight of the vehicle is not going to change, and the lower ball joints are what hold the vehicle off the ground.

    The TC uniballs are supposed to offer another inch of travel correct? so I really dont see the harm, another half in on the CV's wont make them explode

    but shouldnt the BJ angle change b/c of the greater push from the suspension?

    FWIW, the 5100's are designed to give lift on the factory springs. 14" 540# rate. If pre loading a 16" 590# rate spring, the lift will be more. Dont do it.

    I actually have a jeep now. Imagine that.

    but the increased angle would change the direction that the pressure is applied....different weight distributions cause different forces depending on how the mass is applied....Isn't this correct?

    Yes, the angle will change, but the stock lower ball joint can accept the angle.

    Yes, but it shouldnt affect the lower ball joint. Its a beefy unit.

    true. Just saying the moment of the arm would be affected and thus caused a force shift throughout the entire part. Possibly causing stress elsewhere.

    Much more stiff, as he wants to compress a spring with a 590# rate.

    Yes. Lifting it more than what you have is going to quite possibly grenade your CV's.

    I have tried to compress the 885's and install them on a shock with 1" more preload. I would estimate that the compressed 885 would be near 750# spring rate.

    Ok. I'm assuming it's not a good idea to double the diff drop length? then that becomes a weak point and a disaster waiting to happen...?

    No. I dont think a diff drop should even be used unless a last resort.
