oh you just do steps 1-3 one time, and that's it, and assuming the gas station you used is pretty accurate about stopping when your tank is full, then you'll be good forever, if it's not, then try it again with another pump, i actually used 2 different gas stations, but it worked out fine

and then now everytime i fill up the tank, i just go to the fuel menu and fill up tank, and it'll reset my total distance til empty, and levels of gas, and all the other gauges like avg mpg, those you can reset or not, based on what you want to know, for example, how many mpg you get per tank, and such.

So far I've added an Advance folding bed cover and since removed it. Gave it to my son in Maine, he has an 05 2wd. GT perfect fit seat covers. Weathertech floor mats and window vent visors. Waag center brush/grill guard. Hose clamp tailgate mod. Turned off the seat belt chime. Added Ultra-Gauge. Trailer hitch. Softopper. Replaced sun visors with slide out style. Toyota bed extender. Had Firestone Destinations and now Michelin LTX AT2 in stock size. More mods to come; Fog lights, locking storage in bed, intermittent wipers. Now looking for Radio/HU upgrade. and maybe a lift way down the road.
I found my distance to be 0.985 or something like this on the first go round with calibrating. I'll do it a few time until I'm satisfied I have it right. Or as close as I can. Yes OCD real bad.
Mile speedo is off by 3 mph low end. 33 mph on speedo and I'm actually moving at 30 mph per roadside speed gun, my GPS and cop friend of mine.
Higher speeds seem to be off by 5mph So my speedo says 70 and I'm actually moving 65 compared with gps only.
So I had no expectation my ODO would be accurate.

I'm wondering now if the UG will display a more correct speed vs the known to be incorrect speed on the tacoma speedo ?

    Stock wheels and tires.

rbishopp, just fyi if it helps make it easier, but ultraguage says

Many roads will have mile markers, but avoid roads that are not straight. Generally more markers will improve accuracy. The greater your speed between mile markers the better the accuracy of the distance calibration
*If you chose to travel several mile markers, then enter in the number of miles actually driven, for example, 3.00 miles.

also, from what i have found, is the ultragauge speedometer and gps show the same speed, and the only thing off, is the truck's speedo, i see you have the stock steelies (I do too), i've seen a lot of threads on people going to a little bit bigger tire size, and it makes the speedo on the truck more accurate.

Yeah I read about that too. I may try a larger wheel/tire in the future.
For measuring distance I used google maps (rough I know) a GPS that reads on two decimal place out and reported to be accurate under 10 feet. I've seen better but today I was getting 9.82 foot accuracy. I don't have a good marked highway nearby that I can safely stop and restart. Lots of traffic here. I traveled the same length of road in both directions 6 times total and got the same distance all 6 times so I'm figuring the GPS is pretty damn close. Same with the UG now so I'll find out when I drive to work tonight.

    Thanks nammer.

I have 285/75/16 tires and calibrated my speed using the distance calibration. Basically for every 10 miles I am off by 1 mile

    Speedo MPH @ 80
    [IMG]
    UG MPH after calibration
    [IMG]

Before the calibration the speedo and UG read the same.

Did you use the Ultra gauge to calibrate it?

Just got back from a long road trip and re-calibrated the Ultra gauge. Much more accurate now. Notice the mileage difference.

The Ultragauge can not affect any operations of the truck itself.
You can calibrate the readout on the UG, but you only have the option of calibrating the mileage.

Calibrating the UG using the truck's odometer will result in both having the same error, and the speed on the UG will likewise not match the truck's speedometer.

Depending on your tire size, your stock error will be different.
I'm running stock tires on my 5-lug, odometer is maybe 2-3% fast, speedometer is about 7-8% faster than actual (speedo displays about 70, GPS reads about 65).

The UG has no impact on the speedometer or odometer readout.

Unfortunately, there is no way to correct BOTH the UG's speed and mileage display, since they both obtain their data from the Tacoma's VSS pulse. Given that the most common use of the UG is to track fuel economy, it is generally best to calibrate the UG to the odometer reading on a GPS.

I agree. My MPH is off by 3-4 miles due to my tires. It does match my TomTom too

My speedometer is off by 3 - 5 % I think closer to 3%. Odometer seems to be about the same. I used mile markers and GPS several times and various distances to get it dialed in fairly close. When I run the tank down I can really see the difference in the error between the Tacoma an UG.
Yesterday I put 12.1 gallons of fuel in the tank, the UG showed I burned 12 since the last fuel up. I'm thinking I have it pretty darn close.
Also I almost always adjust the fuel calibration when I fuel up. If I don't do it at each fuel up I add up the gallons from the receipts and do it at the next or subsequent fuel stop.

    Stock everything.

    OCD rules.

Went from 265/65r17 to 285/70r17 for a distance diff of 1.07 (I just multiply the odometer by this, need to do some sort of actual distance test though).

Says I'm averaging 18.6 mpg, that's mostly freeway.

MY UG used to say i was averaging 22.9,
Now it says im averaging 18.2.
Obviously it still thinks i have 30" tires on compared to my 33s.

Yeah unless all you do is city driving, I'd say that's a pretty drastic drop for 33"s. Everytime I gas up I just add the new gallons to my previous total (keep a note in my phone) and calibrate the UG to it. Then I multiply the odometer (I used trip B) by 1.07 to figure in the difference for the tires and calibrate that into the UG also. It's damn near spot on now that I've gotten a half dozen fill-ups through it.

Well from Edmunds Review - my truck came with a 255/75r15.
So that is actually a 28.5 upgraded to a 33" tire. and width changed from 9-11.5.
Revolutions per mile changes from 712-616...(96.37 difference, -13.5%)
could i just add 13% more miles to how many miles i drive in a tank of gas??

    60% hwy
    40% hwy

255/75r15 to 285/80r16 (for the sake of keeping things metric) or 32.95" diameter would be a 9.63% lower ODO reading. So if your ODO indicated 100 miles, and you multiplied that by 1.1 (technically 1:0.963) which equals 110, that would give you a more accurate mpg. When I put bigger tires on, I reset all the UG gauges so I could start fresh and get an accurate post-lift reading.

Where did the 9.63% come from?? Also i believe 285/75r16 is the same as 285/70r17 (Not 285/80r16)
i used the calculator here http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/tirecalc.php
Which gave me 13.5%. which i believe i would times my odometer by 1.13...right?
