Need assistance changing a CV in OC, SoCal!

I've got a new CV Axle to replace my old one, (boot tore on the front drivers side). I've also got a place with most if not all the tools to do it (thanks to Matt "The Traveler")
The problem is we both looked at the DIY thread and thought, while It seems fairly simple, It may be pretty easy to fuck up and I can't be left with a disassembled taco In his driveway.

Would anyone with experience doing this be willing to offer a couple hours of guidance or help? If I don't get this done very soon I'm leaning towards paying a local auto shop $110 I barely have to do It. That's easier but I'll be more broke and less educated. Thanks

This really isn't terribly difficult.

Remove tire. Secure UCA. Mark cam bolts. Unbolt LCA from spindle balljoint. Remove Dustcap. Remove cotter pin and CV nut (35mm socket). Gently donk CV shaft out of spindle. Get a drift or slidehammer and less gently donk CV shaft out of diff (Yer gonna lose some ERL!). Install new CV shaft in diff, then spindle. Bolt LCA back to balljoint. Torque CV axle nut appropriately (135lb I think? Can't remember off top of head, look it up) and replace retainer. Replace dust cap. Replace tire. Adjust cam bolts if needed. Top off front diff.

Keep an eye on your front brake lines throughout the process (you may have to wiggle the spindle around to get the CV out of it). Also, endeavor not to damage the data lines if you have a VSC/traction control enabled truck. They are relatively fragile and quite expensive to replace.

You can do eet!

 

I did both of mine. its not that difficult but it can be frustrating. let me know when(weekend) and I can stop by for some assistance. be forewarned. i am not a mechanic, i do most of my own work but do not guarantee success.

Thanks guys, Andrew I know It's not terribly difficult I'm just afraid of messing it up and not having someone around who knows what to do. Anything crazy I've ever done on my truck I've had help with someone who had at least done it before so I just wanted to have that as a backup

But he thinks it's fine to leave Shelby Cobra bodies and chassis and parts lying around as well as his motorcycle parts...anybody else's shit gets trashed if it's laying around the garage.

Im just guessing here but 3hrs tops depending on how nice the axle wants to be to come out. also have tools ready, such as sliding hammer.

 

Does Vatozone rent those out?

P.S. Once we have the proper tools the only outside sources needed will be to get the hub bearing pressed by a local auto shop right?
