Accidentally locked rear diff.

I have a 12 Tacoma TRD prerunner. It has a button to electronically lock the rear diff. Well, my dad borrowed my truck to haul some furniture and he called me to tell me that lights were lit up on my dash and that the rear tires were skidding when he turned. I found out he was driving with the diff locked for a couple miles (with several 90 degree turns).

After, I tested everything out and it works fine. There appears to be nothing wrong.

Question 1: how bad is this?

Question 2: how can I tell if I messed anything up?

he put it in 4 lo and in neutral and hit the locker button? or do you have the locker anytime mod?? anyway, besides being rough on your tires you SHOULD be okay

how fast was he going? you can't really go more than 20mph

we're talking about the prerunner rear lockers. there's a sticker on the drivers side saying not to go over 20mph.

 

you should be fine, if you want you can drain your diff and see if there are metal shavings but if everything runs fine you should be alright

 

Clearly that means going faster is physically impossible.

 

i just read that sticker on my truck. and it says not to operate the rear locker over 5mph.

you can go as fast as you want while the locker is engaged. I turn on the e-locker as soon as i touch dirt, and most of my off road driving is above 20 mph.

yeah it says that, you can go as fast as your heart desires locked lol and I'm pretty sure it says do not engage under 5mph

 

the 4wd say the same but i have done it no problem! and only off road in 4lo.

You should be fine, OP. Operating the locker on asphalt can put stress on the axles and differential, and cause difficulty turning corners, or fishtailing D) but if there are no funny noises coming from the axle, your truck should be fine.

all it means i think if one of your rear tire is spinning.

 

i think we all know what it says. at least all your corners are nice. mine are all messed up. thought about taking it off. also they are really just trying to cover their asses from a law suit over someone crashing when they have it on.
