I have been a member here for a very long time, and have loved every minute of it. And believe me when i get a new car i wont be going anywhere.

Anyways, i don't necessarily need help making the decision, just some somewhat unbiased opinion, and if you plan on flaming me for selling my taco, save it. No one needs your opinion on that matter.

Anyways the truck has been awesome but im ready for a new stage in life, want something smaller and sporty

Right now my two choices of what i want are either:

    A. 06-07 Subaru Impreza WRX STi Sedan

    or

    B. 05-07 Infiniti G35 Coupe 6MT

Pros and Cons of from what i read.

    STi:

Pro's - Fast, lots of bolt-on's, 4 doors (more room), AWD so if i need to i can take it to the snow.

Con's - Not a huge con because its fixable but i hate the stock altezza style tail lights, poor ride comfort, non-luxury interior, expensive aftermarket parts.

    G35:

Pro's: Pretty fast stock, good looks, more luxurious ride (even though i would swap it with coil overs), more comfortable interior, cheaper aftermarket parts.

Con's: Not as fast as STi, less interior space, only RWD so snow is a no-go.

So i know most of you would say, "just go drive them both" well, thats a problem im not the greatest at Manual Transmission, so i....dont want to ruin someones clutch hahaha, so i wish i could easily drive manual but i havent driven manual since senior year, and i only drove it briefly on a ford focus, and an old hilux. Comments on being a n00b at manual will be disregarded as well.

So anyone with personal experience with these cars? i know theyre meant for very different purposes, and whichever one i get i will use the cars for those purposes.

    Thank you guys

I used to own a Subie and it treated me awesome. I am actually looking to build one again too (2002 - Bug Eyes) I would definitely say go for the STI!! The Infinities are amazing cars, but extremely expensive to fix. Also there will be a lot more aftermarket parts for the Subie. I just think it's an all around better car..but they both sound SIIICK!! Good luck!

Why are you worried about snow if your in "San Diag bro"??? I am not biased because I am not really into either cars (too much :D) my name is just boosted for the Tacoma. Either way I would defiantly go with the boxer engine stile STI. They are pretty easy to do maintenance on and have so much potential for that quick off the line awhp. I have also heard that the sti's tranny is very tough. I'm not sure about the 35. I also think that there is nothing cooler than a fully spooled turbo car shifting and releasing that pressure through the BOV (gets all the girlz to look ;)

It really depends on what you wanna do in the long run, the STI has many more aftermarket parts than the G35, the subaru trannys are bullet proof but the motors are fairly soft once you start adding boost.

I love STI's my good friend has a 06 i would go with the subaru

    EDIT: check out NASIOC.com
be careful its just as addicting as TW

STI. AWD is so much more forgiving on the road.

New or used? New I would definitely opt for a Subie, used I think I'd go with a G35.

I'd go with the subie for sure. If you're looking for some luxury, why don't you look for either a 2007 or newer legacy spec b or an STI limited? Both had all the bells and whistles, same engines (would need a reflash on the legacy for the hp bump) and are probably around the same price. Both of these would be real sleepers as they don't really look like they're packing much heat compared to the shopping cart wing sti. Just my $.02

Both are great cars and from great brand even though ultimately Infiniti is the Lexus of Nissan and Subaru is the sporty off road for Toyota. My parents have only bought Infiniti for their past 6 Cars since about 1995. My mother has a 2007 G35 Sedan and it has unbelievable horse power and a manual transmission in that car would be a wet dream to me. I personally believe that since the Infiniti is made as a luxury car it will drive smoother and better than the Impreza even though the engines put out the same amount of power. It says that you live in San Diego so I do not think that AWD or RWD and thinking of snow should play a big part. If you are for certain of moving to a place way more north with harsh winters than maybe but unless you know you are moving to like tacoma, washington with in the next 6 months there is about no reason to think about snow capabilities. Say you buy the G35 and unexpectedly have to move North then you can always sell it and get something more capable. Infinities keep their value as long as maintained well so resale will not be too much a problem.

My next point would be that if you are worried about how you want to present yourself to other people. People make judgements of how you are as a person by what you drive no matter if they are legitimate or not. Since you are 21 you are still at an age that you can stay more of the Impreza feel and not be thought of as childish. Then again the Infiniti is nice enough that it is sporty enough but gives sporty a sense of class. I am not saying that an Impreza cannot have class but I feel that the G35 especially Coupe give significantly more. Do you see many 50 and above driving Imprezas? There are plenty more driving G35 but that is not to say that it still cannot be driven by a 20 something and not be thought that he is driving the wrong car. The infiniti I am saying has a larger age range of drivers. And if you care anything about female, I will argue that more will like the fact that you drive a G35 and to them that will say that you like speed but also nicer things and there is a significant amount of class about you but not to where it becomes snobby, unless you want to make it that way.

My third point is that if you are into heavy customization/aftermarket then the Impreza is your way to go. That is not to say there is not a heavy aftermarket for G35, but this goes back to that age range. The G35 spreads to a larger one.

My final point may be one you have not considered or may have not even realize. My mother's G35 and our newer G25 are to only take premium gasoline. I am not for sure but since I have been paying attention and that was at least early 2000s with my mother's Qx4s (which I almost had one till the radiator blew out) that she only puts in premium. I have never heard of an Infiniti that takes other. Though they can take the lower grades. The brand, dealership, service, and even inside the fuel cover will say to only give it Premium. Remember it is a luxury vehicle first so it will be highly suggested to only give it premium. I do not know if that is a warranty issue if you use mid-grade or regular and that maybe something to talk to someone about. I do not know if there is any stipulation like that with the Impreza. I would expect there is not or not as heavily.

    That is just my $0.02
