I know, I know... I'm gonna get a lot of shit and people saying "wrong thread bro" but I don't care. Soon I will be selling my baby :( which means I have to get a car that's paid for and is fairly decent on gas so I'm torn between two cars that couldn't be anything more than polar opposites. LOL. I'm torn between a Mustang GT/Cobra to which I've had many in my past and a Civic Si which is the commuter's ideal gas sipper with nice sporty features. Please refrain from hating. I travel a decent amount but I love good ole American V8's.. However, the civic talks to me when it comes to saving money. What do you guys think and what do you prefer?

Seems like running premium gas defeats the purpose of trying to get better fuel economy. Premium is over $4 here when regular is $3.59.

Taking your "needs to be fairly decent on gas" into consideration.... I think this is an easy decision.

Yeah, a total con to the civic si. My buddy can put $40 in it and run for 2 weeks. Kinda makes me sick sometimes.

My old Mustang's were pretty decent on gas. I could get 26 on the highway no problem believe it or not.

GT/Cobra mustangs are on the top 15 list of my favorite cars but so is this:

I say get an Si, best of both worlds. Fuel economy, sporty, pretty quick (could be a really quick car with a few mods if you felt you wanted to do that).

Nice car! Unfortunately that body style is outta my price range. I'm really looking hard into the em1's (1999-2000). So in the case, very slow. Lol

They're still pretty nice! But the above pic is my favorite civic body style, besides the ek hatches ;)

I agree though you may think its great to drive a Mustang ( one of the few fords I would not mind owning) still that V8 is going to be a frat boy with one night to drink all the beer he can for the rest of his life. I think you need to think about how far you are driving, how much you will spend on gas and if you got the Mustang how much you would have to cut back on entertainment or higher quality food or eating out to offset the cost of gas.

Yeah, that's a good point. I figured since the Mustang runs regular gas and the Civic runs premium it won't make that huge of a difference.

It may not but you will probably be more tempted to have heavier accelerations in the Mustang which will chug it even faster the more you do those. I would crunch the numbers and see if their are trade offs with a consistent range between the price of regular and premium

EK hatch (96-00) and your set. even if you get a ex it has the d16y8 engine VTEC makes the car a torqueless monsta if done right for cheap. Those are the best looking civics IMO

I second the EK hatch. I had a 96 with a B18c1 swap, insane gas mileage. With the stock single cam and 2 passengers Me (190lbs) and my buddy (around 300ish lbs) we got like 35-38 mpg no lie (manual) on a road trip.

I owned 3 Mustangs in the past, but sorry a Mustang, much less a Cobra is anything but decent on gas. Once you come to terms with this your decision will be much easier. If your goal is to save gas and money, a Civic is a no brainer. If your goal is to be sporty and fast, then go for a Mustang, but don't buy it because you "plan" on trying to save gas in a Mustang cause it's not going to happen.

I have considered an EK hatch and I saw one with a k20 swap and it was sick! Hatchbacks just aren't my thing. Still nice cars nonetheless.

    Too few to list.
I've owned both mustangs and civics and RWD with torque is a fun ride but if mileage is your goal then the civic is for you. I remember getting over 400 miles on a 10-11 gallons (2000 EX). No it's not fast but it's still a fun drive in a manual. I drove a 2009 EX and the DBW ruined the experience of a manual.
