It looks to be built using the same tech as when I owned my FJ40 in the states. Damn I wished they still sold them here. You couldn't stop that fucker!

Tacomas didn't come around 'til 1995. Prior to that they were known as a Pickup. And I believe the first few years were even called a Hilux in the US

Prior to 1995 the Toyota truck in the states was simply called the "Toyota Pickup" and had a lot in common with the Hilux. Some items (torsion bar IFS and a different frame primary among them) did start to diverge in the late 80s, but the two trucks still shared more in common than not.

In 1995, Toyota launched a completely different midsize pickup platform for the North American market, and that's when the Tacoma got started. The Hilux went overseas and remained more rugged in a lot of ways (although it eventually did make the switch to IFS).

lol. Without a doubt those trucks would outlast the crap we get here. These are built in Japan (wish mine was). Unlike here in the US people actually rely on and use trucks. Just look at the "accesories" they get over there (factory snorkels, bullbars and tray backs). We get leather, chrome, chrome, chrome and chrome rims. People that think Toyotas are little toy trucks (usually coming from the big 3 owners) shows me they don't know shit about a real truck. 10% of their roads are paved-90% of ours are.

My first car was a 76' CJ5 that came with a ass-shelf (great diction ;)) kinda like this one. Except it was mounted about 3' taller, right about at the top of the spare. I ended up cutting it down and making a shelf like this to haul crap but the taller shelf would have given you back your departure angle, but at the expense of rear view and center of gravity. Just thought I'd chime in since I actually have relevance to this topic :D

I did some research. I don't know how accurate it is, but I found a website that said the reason toyota didn't bring that truck to US is because of California emission regulations. Apparently they were going to make these trucks in 70's or 80's, whenever they started the Nummi plant. Apparently, toyota decided they were going to put the majority of their focus for the American division on meeting emission regulations. So, now we have the tacoma and tundra, and the rest of the world has the hilux and 70 series.

Exactly the same, you are getting confused. The bad ass boxy suv in the video is called a Landcruiser 70 series. The hilux is equivalent of the tacoma in every country.

    AU hilux is same: http://www.toyota.com.au/hilux/range?WT.ac=VH_Hilux_TopNav_RangeandSpecs

The Australian hilux is more rugged I think. It has more options than the European hilux or the tacoma.

^How many kilopascals does your tire pressure change every 10 deg C? :p

The Hilux sold in Australia is built in Thailand, and the flagship trim level is Hilux TRD with 1GR-FE gas V6 and factory supercharger. Note the leather seats and chrome mirrors. :p Apparently most people drive diesels there because they can't afford the gas...

    Listen for the pricetag.
