Tough choice. Age and wisdom would tell me to go with the G35. Then again, I've always wanted one of those STi's....... Best of luck!

I love my Subi, that's what I would go with. My old coworker had a G35. I never really liked the interior or how it road all that much.

Not all driver's under 25 are idiots. I really doubt Jake would be the type of person to drive reckless or total a car. I don't ever push my car at all, you just need to respect what you are driving and drive responsibly.

Oh no I'm not trying to accuse him of being a terrible driver and say he is for a fact going to total the car but when pushed to the edge of the limit, they have great grip but push it a little bit beyond that and thats where you get the crashes. They either have all the grip in the world or non at all and young and stupid drivers that don't know that will end up totaling the car. Now I'm not saying that he's a terrible driver because he's 21, I'm just trying to worn him not to go over that limit or its not a good outcome thats all.

Check my build thread...too much to list.
Subie is my vote. That's what I'd get if I had to go back to a car.

Both cars around 20 grand... Basically you get the same year for the price 2006, I would prob lean towards the STI! Both nice cars!!! Good luck.

    Subaru all day.

Simply because it's AWD, and I like having AWD/4WD on at least one of my vehicles. :)

Ahh finally something on this forum I can help with. I actually build and tune cars more specifically Subarus.

If you want a slammed street car and plan on keeping it pretty mild the g35 is a decent car add in a nice turbo kit like the momentum performance turbo kit and a tune and you can make 400 pretty easy. everytime you hit the throttle youll have a huge smokey burn out.

The 06-07 sti is one of my favorites. 07 sti has a nice gear ratio that allows you to go into 5th without it bogging down.. forever powerband. An exhaust and a tune can get you 300whp/300+tq easily. Add in injectors and a few other supporting mods and a larger turbo 375-400 is easy 400+ is easy to make but the factory ringlands are garage. some drop in forged pistons and a larger turbo will hold near 600 on stock rods.

My street car makes 610whp/580wtq and is a nightmare to keep in a straight line haha

a 400whp 07 sti say a shortblock with forged pistons, injector dynamic1000cc injectors, fuel pump, gt3076 ( or PTE 5857) rotated turbo kit, fmic, down pipe, exhaust well its a damn rocket ship haha

Judging by the intial comment of wanting something small and sporty:
STI hands down. If you're looking for performance, get the STI. If yore looking for a nicely styled car thats sporty, get the g35. I've worked on and driven both, and owned a V35 sedan. The G's are by no means luxurious, unless you are comparing it to a Tacoma.. The G is heavy and feels like it, specially compared to a STI. The subie will give you cheap, no frills performance, but isn't that what this is all about? AWD launches and spooling it up never gets old.
But since you're already thinking of an STI, why not an evo? I miss my '90 GSX, love the 4G63.

Bilstein 5100's on all four with some OME 885x's. Brute Force Fab front bumper. Warn winch. Koenig countersteers wrapped with duratracs.

    quoted for truth.

and to add...all wheel drive launches - nothing like it.

most of all the work on my STi was done by myself with the help of friends other than the tune, and im def not a mechanic. i swapped some lowering springs for the tune from a guy in the area who tunes them. Simple bolt ons/tune i was running around 350 running mid-low 12s. I daily drove it and it was quite a comfy ride even with some stiff coilovers - but that was the price you pay for the ability to do on ramps at 100 :D (on private on ramps)

Well not luxurious compared to Mercedes or Jaguar or something, but compared to anything Toyota cranks out.

I don't want an evo, for no other reason but the looks.

Honestly it depends on what i can buy (availability of each car when it comes time to buy). Like i said, i dont race, i wont be pushing 400+rwhp as nice and as fun as that would be, its hard to do working part time. Truth be told if i got a subaru i probably wouldnt touch performance mods for a while. And if were talking stock 07 sti vs stock 07 g35, the subaru isnt MUCH faster.

It comes down to if i buy an STi its for performance (definitely not looks), if i buy a G35 its for looks, (with a little performance).

I agree with you about the engines being soft when you add boost, but they can definitely handle it! My old subie was pushing 21lbs of boost and had started getting detonation. Fuel pump, injectors and a cobb tuning access port will take the engine strength up to a whole other level...the thing you really need to watch for on those year subies is the head gasket.

Sounds like you'd appreciate the g35 more. Its nicer than the Sti as far as interior goes, (heated seats and leather), handles pretty good, make sure you get the big-brake optioned one. It's quick, but not as performance oriented as the subuaru. The vq is a good motor though. It's proven itself for years. I've driven an aps twin turbo'd one and it's quick, but the g35 is good enough stock, if you won't be pushing limits. And my comment about it not being luxurious points to the fact that it is still a sporty car, and won't be as comfortable as a car built for luxury. It is way better appointed compared to the Tacoma, though. Good luck with your purchase.
