Maint Required light wont reset?

Hit 5000 mi. and the light stays on.....im following the procedure in the manual but the light wont reset......any ideas?

 

You should be on trip "A" when pressing and holding the trip button. The lines will start flashing and stop when you've reset it

 

Do you have to continue holding it as the light blinks and the zeros count down?
