Wish we have hit a few more trails but this was the 3rd year in a row and all we really did was fish since it was the first time the snow pack was nothing in the Le Sal's.

finally got some time on the new setup, and i must say...i am missing my CAI! (for those lazy bastards, i had the volant CAI with ram air and doug thorley long tubes, now i have thorley short tubes and in preparation for a snorkel install, i have gone back to the stock air intake)

my mpg have gone down by 2-3mpg on my 150mile plus journey south to a client today and i have also noticed a dramatic increase in my intake temps...usually at speed, my intake temps would run 2-5* above the outside air temps...with the stock intake i am running 10-15* above outside temps...that's at highway speeds too

on my way home from work yesterday, i noticed my intake temps were 20*+ over the outside air temps

so, idk about any hp or torque gains from the volant CAI with skewp, but i can attest to the mpg gains and effectiveness to pull in cold air..

makes me want this snorkel on even more now.... :playball:

    can't wait :goingcrazy:

that's good to know that you are still getting those readings using the stock tubing within the engine bay..

with the volant air ram which locates above the radiator pulls in a lot of fresh air, more so than the fender does i believe, so that's where i get the most cold air from with that setup..

at least i'm not the only person venturing that far south....

went down there few weeks ago on my bike and being able to open up on 165 up through the mountains down there made it worth it...without the bike it's just a long ass drive in the morning..

was recently asked my thoughts on the doug thorley short tubes, so i might as well put this up here too..

overall i think i like them...quiets the ride down some and gives me a good smooth gain throughout the rpm range

but i just had to go down to pueblo for work the past two days and i notice a loss for sure on the high rpm range compared to the long tubes..

with the re-gear, i am at 3100-3300rpm when at 75-80mph on the highway, and the long tubes definitely give me more when you are that high in the rpms...

but that's something that i can live with...but i'm curious to see it off road and in the mountains..

So far i just have the completed photo on...i need to run through some things with the manufacturer and tacoma magazine before i post everything on here...but if you have any specific questions, for now, shoot me a pm and i'll gladly answer any..

    oh, you should talk!!!

this is the completed product...still have some tweaking to do on the skewp itself. i'm going to lower it a bit from it's set height. also going to hit the snorkel to body gap with some silicone to close it off a bit, even though it is a nice fit as it is..

nice thing about this kit is the modifications to the truck are minor...i had to cut out a bracket within the wheel well and modify the stock intake a bit (cut off the cup at the end of the intake hose)..that was it for truck mods...everything else was snorkel related

dealing with a prototype, there were some slight modifications to the provided hardware to make it fit, but those problems have been addressed with the manufacturer already and shouldn't be an issue with the final product (so i'm told). to create a better seal between the snorkel plumbing and the intake, we went to the hardware store to get a 4" to 4" rubber connection piece to make the seal nice (used a section of plastic tube to fit over the stock intake to make a tight fit up to the 4" rubber)

that is a nice thing about this kit too is that the plumbing is all 4" tubes running from the snorkel to the intake, which is also what the stock flexible hose is approx.

but i'm working on the photos and a write-up...it'll be a bit til i post the write up until i sort some things out...

but feel free to pm me with any questions, i'll be glad to answer them..

Nice product for sure. Should have lots of air flow with it.

This, this is true. You should win hands down on the largest collected object in your air filter. :p
