6" Lift Questions

I hate to beat a dead horse... but ive been searching and havent found the answers yet... i want to do a 6" lift... not sure if i want pro comp or fabtech yet.... are these lifts bolt on? or do i have to cut things and also weld? i mean ill probably install it with a couple of friends... also ive read some threads and some guys with 6" lifts didnt regear.. i mean do i really have to regear? is it going to shorten the life of the truck?

 

anyone know where i can find a good bumper also?

 

Cutting/Welding- I think there is some notching required to lift for 6" but I'm not 100% on that.

Regearing- If you put larger tires (about 10% larger or more) you really should regear- You'll be putting a LOT of stress on the driveline and asking for something to go wrong.

Bumper-What do you mean by "good"?? Good OEM replacement?? Good Offroad?? with a winch?? Tube Style?? Prerunner??

i am going on 30,000 miles with no regear and no issues. Get procomp so you can make a skid for it.. fabtech is teh suck

you will have to cut your crossmember if you are 4x4, cut as little as possible; trust me


another option that may or may not be worth looking into would be to get the RVC or RCV however its spelled, 4.5" db kit, then get some 6" COs and you have the best of both worlds

allpro makes a nice looking bumper, its strength leaves something to be desired and everybody and their mom has one.. be different, get a 4x innovations or wait and see what demello comes out with for Wyatt's truck. Shrockworks are beef, also CBI will make anything you want to your spec.

 

Good thing I used the search, I had the exact same questions. Just to throw another question out there, how is the pro comp stage 1?

 

Both kits require cutting. The ProComp kit only has a small section cut out big enough for the front drive shaft to go through.

If your '09 has VSC (vehicle stability control) and you want 6" stage II that has the front coilover shocks you will need to use kit # K5073BMX.

Be advised, you MUST use 18", or larger, wheels with the ProComp 6" (K5073BMX) kit.

I'm not sure if Fabtech has released their 6" '09 VSC kit yet.

 

is this kit doable just with a couple of guys? or is this something a shop should do?

 

you can run a 17 with spacers with the stage two cant you? im running a stage one with stockers and 1.5 allpro spacers

 

on the 05-08s you can run 17s.. on the 09s i heard you have to run 18s.

The problem lies in the fact that they made changes to the spindle for the '09 to accommodate the VSC. I asked ProComp about running 17's w/spacers and they told me it would be iffy. Of course this was after I had already ordered 17's, because this info was not available on the internet, and I was scrambling to find some way out of my delima without having to reorder everything.

So, my advice is to order 18" wheels if they decide to go with this kit for the '09. If they want to risk going the 17 w/spacer route, best of luck.
