While ur at it, buy water heater blanket, all cfl lights, unplug all devices for ghost electricity not to be wasted, digital thermostats, and lower temp on water heater. Just a few tips if energy savings is the ultimate goal.

    http://energy.gov/energysaver/downloads/energy-savers-guide

Go here, govt says u should replace/exchange everything electronic, so get on it, it must be true.

Don't be the sheeple. Plus, u work for power company, just steal the electricity.

Attic insulation should be min of r-38. To be what is recommended. Better ways to spend money, but new fridge looks nicer :D seriously, efficiency should b a plan, like I said, it's my business, but do what ya gotta, my advice is free. Talk to home owners, and get an idea.

Woot! You do any work with McGrory Glass?

Sears scratch and dent. You still get a great warranty. Having 3 refrigerators is a joke. No need for that many. Your young....use the steps to get to the fridge. A typical fridge is 40% of your anual electric bill on average in a home that also runs AC. I do not run AC so that 40% is more like 80% for my home. I have a membership to Consumer Reports (online) so if you want I can shoot you the password and you can check out their results for equipment.

    this.

    hell yea

Poop! You salesmen are all the same. My electric bill is $13 a month and my gas is about $30 a month in the winter. I have chicken coop insulation in my attic. Prob R-8 at most. I just close down the rooms I'm not using (95% of the house) and heat the rest. My basement windows are single pane plexi. I will agree having an efficient house helps, but you can also control your inefficient items and still be cheap. My water heater is set as low as it goes and has a thermal blanket on it. The only "Energy Star" items I have in my house is my washer and dryer.

You don't need three fridges. Sell one on craigslist and keep the other one unplugged until you actually need it. That's how I do it with my basement fridge.

Tankless heaters are much more $$$. Their average life span is 20yrs and it takes almost 30yrs to offset the cost fifference at current rates. as of now they are not cost efficient but do use less gad and water. maybe in a few years when prices drop and utilities costs rise it would be better, just not now.

Ok maybe there was some misconception in my 3 fridge statement... There are 3 but the only 1 plugged in is the one in the kitchen. The one in the basement is full of baseballs... :notsure: and the one in the garage appears to be dry storage as well. BUT instead of seeing if one of them works and using it as a beer fridge I'd rather buy a newer one for the kitchen and use the current kitchen fridge in the garage to keep beer in.

I don't plan on keeping the old 2 fridges, those are garbage and probably use an exorbenant amount of electricity.

And Eddie- about your statement that I should "steal electricity because I work for the power company"... Yea the minimum savings on my electric bill is not worth losing my job and going to jail. It's happened to plenty of other people already.

    Ant-
I will need to replace my hot water heater sooner than later and definitely would rather do a tankless (same as "on demand" right?) Idc if it costs twice as much as long as it costs less to use each month. I have electric and oil but no natural gas service, any idea what I'd be looking at price wise? It's only a small 3 bed room ranch.

They have electric units. Looked into them when my heater went a few months ago. The electric ones aren't nearly as efficient. And if you have well water (which I do) their lifespan is much reduced.

Underground tank was removed in 2005, now it's in the basement. My thoughts are to possibly go gas when it's time to replace the furnace.

if you plan on being there for a long time I would make the investment. That will save you a ton in the long run. while oil prices go up my natural gas prices went down last year + you have a steady supply. no running out and calling for a refill. everything in my crib is gas. the only electric appliance I use is the microwave and washer.

Bought a $400 50 gallon tank from he. Believe warranty is 10 years or so. I have well water and like mentioned, they shit all over water heaters. But have had the heating coils replaced for free already. The cost of water tank for hot water is better than tankless as of now.

Trust Boyd though, he knows efficiency, his house is perfect winter and summer temps, but at wrong times, it's 85 in the summer and 65 in the winter.

I'm surprised you use the house for anything but sleeping Boyd. You should buy a bungalow up here that's 800 sqft and call it a day.

Gena takes care of electric bills and I just saw last few, 112 current bill. Last month was 109. And gena cooks every night with the oven and stove top. Plus over 110 between two tvs and home theater which is always on. You can't put a price on what it costs to be happy in ur own home. Plus you can imagine about 1 hr of showers a day. 10 min for me 50 for gena, then the blow dryer and curling irons. Etcetc.

Boyd ur comment before about attic insulation is completely nuts. R8 in the ceiling is not normal or recommended, whether im in sales or not. It makes a huge difference in House temp. ESP in one like yours which is a ranch.
