    Its a ~@#&$^(*!&#$^ to get the coal going when it goes out sometimes if you don't have any wood handy. Those logs help but aren't a good substitution for real wood.

    I used to. Moved 40 miles farther from the depleting wood source (can only cut dead trees). New house has gas fireplace. I wont miss cutting, hauling, splitting, stacking & restacking wood. I will miss the cheep heat. We might get a pellet stove for the new place.

    I burn close to two cords a year in a high efficiency fireplace. Its basically a wood stove in the wall. Anyone got any unique methods of storing their wood? Please keep it clean :)

    I figured.

    I thorw those in the fireplace at home sometimes, if we have people over. Easier than tending to wood,just let it burn. I also break them in half and use them to start the fire in my fire pit in the back yard.

    LOL, love the water run-off system you have in place. What is this talk about depleting wood source? Gas (propane) is so expensive to heat with, otherwise I would stick with just that.

    Cool door, how well is it insulated. I can imaging a lot of heat loss through there.

    I don't think it's very well insulated, but I haven't looked at it very closely. That said, it is San Diego.

    36 here the night before last got 10 cords up for me cut 20 to sell it's all spoken for, year old fire wood is going for 250+ a cord. Next purchase gasifcation boiler and 500 gals hot water storage sure would like to turn off the oil burner completely.
