EDIT: The Rust-Oleum Ultra 2x coverage did not work the way I planned. Another member (ae111black) tried the clear plastidip and says it worked perfectly. I just ordered 3 cans of it to try again.

So I bought a chrome 2011 Grill from another member, and I wanted to paint match it to Silver Streak Mica. Evidently, when semi-gloss clear coat is applied to chrome, it comes out almost identical to SSM.

Here's after one full can. First coat is a bit uneven, so I'm waiting until it's dry then I'll even out. Didn't tape anything down, just cleaned and prepped it. I even hit the emblem and black with it. I need to buy at least one more can, possibly two more to be safe. And I'm thinking of trying just matte clear coat this time. The semi-gloss still shows too much of the sheen from the chrome through the paint.

Even better, if anybody can find it, they sell clear plastidip and it gives the same effect...except you can just peel it off to have the chrome again. LOL

Another cool option may be to scuff up the chrome, then clear coat...give you a brushed aluminum look

Any shots of it on the truck?

Any kind of clear coat will work, and like I said, just a good cleaning with soap and water, then let it dry and spray away.

After letting the first coat dry a bit, it came out too glossy for my liking. I'm going to hit it with a coat of matte or satin tonight and see how that turns out.
