    I just got a 2009 Access Cab 4 cyl, 5 speed.
The window sticker says it has ATRAC. I have no button or idiot light. On the 09's is there a button on all versions, or is is on by default in 4L?

So the window sticker on my truck is wrong? Says right on it listed under Mechanicle features, line#9
    "Active Traction Control (A-TRAC)"
This is one of the selling features of this model, does Toyota owe me a switch?

I'm not sure, but when I put my truck in 4Lo and push the ATRAC button, it says "ATRAC" on my dash...

ATRAC is only on the offroad models....TRAC is on everything else. there is more to it than just a switch to make it work.

The button is under the Air Conditioning controls and you have to be in 4-lo to use it. Then all you do is press the button and it will work almost like a limited slip differential if what i have been told is correct. It makes alot of noise when you use it since it is applying the breaks to certain wheels. Works really well though.

The button is down low, you might miss it if you didn't know it was there.

I spoke with my dealer.... He said Canadian trucks are differant. No maintenence reminder, no A-TRAC switch. So if anyone has a 2009 in Canada with the A-TRAC switch, let me know.

That explanation doesn't make sense, the window sticker says A-TRAC, whereas a 2WD says TRAC. As well, Toyota issued a press release last fall that stated....
    http://www.toyota.ca/cgi-bin/WebObjects/WWW.woa/7/wo/Home.Vehicles.Go.Tacoma-tdH9SbBAnowbY7CkNAWIn0/0.7?v131040e%2ehtml

    US - http://www.toyota.com/tacoma/specs.html

I guess the dealer was right, A-TRAC funtions differantly on Canadian trucks.

That sucks if you can't turn it off. It is works pretty well in some situations, but it is a noisy, shacky ride when real wet.

I have a shutoff for VSC, and TRAC. I'm assuming that in 4WD, or 4L, that A-TRAC funtions after shutting off the nannies. I will put it through it's paces once it's broken in....

if you look on the second site and check the specs on 4x4 I4, and 4x4 V6 it shows that atrac is only avaible as an option package on the 4x4 V6. That being the TRD Off-road

and in the top right corner of the top site in tiny lettering it says 'vehicle may not be as shown'....

TRAC is on ALL models. A-TRAC is not.

Ok I live in canada, and had plenty of time to try the truck last winter. I have the 2.7 4X4 and it HAS ATRAC. The only difference is that you have to keep traction control on to have ATRAC and be in 4HI. In 4HI all my wheels grips, in 4LO only 2 of my 4 wheels grips, and have no traction control.

ATRAC works like the auto-lsd in 2HI: you have to have the traction control on (by not pressing the small sliding car button 5 seconds)

Weird that it doesn't work in 4LO, but I can tell you that having 4 wheels grip in 4HI is pretty handy here in winter. I prefer having ATRAC in 4HI than in 4LO.

Note: if you turn traction control off in 4HI you lose ATRAC.
