I bet you guys don't have the smashed in passenger side mod yet! Its all the rage... You probably never heard of it ~ heh

So my 2013 Tacoma DblCab TRD Offroad with less than 1k miles, and under 3 weeks old is totaled out. I was making a left turn on arrow and a guy ran a red light and plowed into my passenger side. '88 Bronco, lift, 35" tires, winch bumper at about 40mph. What I was most impressed by, is the inside of the truck (aside from the broken glass) was practically unchanged. Any passengers would have made it out just fine.

What made it a total loss, is the suspension disconnected and the UCA jabbed up through the firewall. I have a broken rib, my back and abs are sore, but other than that, happy the truck kept me safe.

Good news is, I get to go shopping for a new ride -again

Has insurance said it's totaled yet? That looks very fixable.

    Too many to list now.
Holy smokes. Are you seeking restitution from the other driver? Insurance can buy you a new rig, but I would imagine you're entitled to get more than that for your injuries. Might have yourself a modded 2013 taco after all, just done the right way. Glad you're okay OP, and Jake hahaha you gotta read the first post, suspension is all jacked up. It's totaled.

originally when I called my insurance, they said they would most likely fix it, since the truck's value was so high. When the shop did the appraisal inspection, they said that the 1 thing that made it a total loss, is the hole in the firewall.

Suspension, axles, frame, body, whatever, all that can be fixed. He said that once the firewall is damaged and separated from the integral passenger cage, the safety and strength of the chassis is compromised. He said no shop will take that risk or liability to try and fix it. If they were to just weld it back together, and somethign happened in another accident, it would be big lawsuits

Suspension "disconnecting" could mean a number of things.

No doubt the truck is fucked up, but if insurance hasn't said its totaled, then I wouldn't be considering it totaled yet.

And if he has broken ribs/hospital time the other guy's insurance will very likely be sending you a check soon. ( a check which can be declined... Over and over.. Until they send you the "appropriate" amount)

Well all in all, that's a good thing for you - you don't want a fixed up truck.. You want a brand new truck.

    Glad you're not hurt.

The insurance adjuster said that he spoke with the shop and looked at the truck. They're just waiting on the write up and paperwork to make it official

Almost immediately after the accident, his insurance called me and asked me what happened and if I was hurt. I told them I was fine, because at the time I did feel fine. Later on that day I started feeling stiff and sore. This morning I was pretty rough. Am I S.O.L. because I told them I was fine? Also, Im Active Duty Army and my medical is all free to me. Will his insurance still pay me even though I don't have any medical expenses? Im just total noob on these things.

You're not SOL. This happens all the time in accidents. Adrenaline kicks in initially and you feel the pain later that day.

    Here's what you do:

Go to the hospital. You have free medical. You're probably 99% sure you're fine, but there is that 1%. Also that hospital visit will end up getting you more money in the long run.
