Well, not really an answer, but i guess it will have to do, never really known Jim to go around pissing off that many people, usually stayed within the normal groups and those that he dished it to usually dished it back without a problem (like OZ:D). Most of the people Jim would mess with were good about what he had to say and took it with stride. Guess he pissed someone off today. Whatever.

That article paints a pretty horrific picture. I would take the property owner's words with a grain of salt, though. He probably falsely advertised that his villa was anonymous, easily defended, and and plenty of egress points (a bunch of selling points I made up) and then the attacks happened and the only way for him to defend his false advertising was to say the attacking force was 400 coordinated soldiers.

On a separate note, to think that the US will do nothing isn't realistic. It is a certainty that the group will be hunted, found, and then probably drone stricken. They will most likely be hiding in their friend's grandfather's house with bunches of women and children inside and the drone strike will kill 3 targets and 27 innocents. The local press will get inflamed and it will seem just like Pakistan mark II.

As much as I would love to just pack up and go home from all foreign endevours......Look at what happens when the US is not involved in major international crisis. Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia, Darfur...Shit just gets worse. Clinton wized up and realized Europe couldn't do shit to clean up its back yard in Bosnia so he acted quickly in Kosovo. It's a fucked up world.

Did you read what the Mod wrote?
And besides the point, did you even bother to read what he wrote?
This doesn't sound like he's talking about the topic at all, does it? All because he doesn't like to hear others opinions when they don't match his. And over the above posted picture representing Americas past ideas of "prudent" foreign policy. Veteran doesn't mean "right". You can't just be an asshole because someone pointed out what your Government did in the past. If you don't like what your Government did in the past, learn to live with it; if you don't like what they are doing now, change it; if you want to stop them from making future mistakes teach your children (the future voters) about the mistakes of the past and give them the ethics and morals to vote for responsible government.

Being a vet doesn't give you cart blanche to act any way you please. Again-His choices went beyond just that post. As much as folks would like to think that a message he sent to the staff "aren't really an answer" or "is lame"...That is what happened.

To get back on thread topic:
This morning I heard on the news that the US embassy in Tunisia was attacked.
The German Embassy in Khartum was set on fire.
The US embassy in Sudan has protesters gathering outside of it.
The United States of Obesity embassy (KFC) is attacked in Lebanon.
Now I'm actually starting to get concerned about WWIII.
    Shit is seriously fucked up.

they were attacking a British Embassy somewhere as well.

i'd love to see all attacked parties pull everyone out of those places and stop sending money. wont happen, but it'd get the point across.

I think somebody's already said it, but even if we did pull out and stop sending money, there would still be a group or groups of people that hate us. I don't know if its because of the last 50 years of CIA activities in the region securing our oil rights or if its because of Paris Hilton/Jersey Shore heathenism, but some people just hate us.
The truly unfortunate thing is that the hateful parties are a minority. Its just that they scream the loudest and have guns. Sometimes that results in them getting elected to power (like the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, where they won the election with something like 51% of 50% turnout - 26% of the vote) and sometimes they just take the power (like the Taliban) because they can.

i dont think that pulling away from these countries would change the minds of their inhabitants, but that wouldnt be my intention for doing it either. we still shouldnt be helping countries that hate us and our way of life. we helped eqypt and libya to be more democratic and they still chose what they chose. nothing will stop that or how they feel, we just shouldnt be supporting it.
