CBs are extremely useful tools. outside of the offroad wold, mine has saved me from being in a wreck that most likely would have totaled my truck and injured me. for $50 you can have a basic radio and magnetic antenna with the needed wiring.

headed north on i-95 at about 4 am, on my way to VA from FL. no traffic since it's 4 am, but then i hear on the radio that there is a huge backup ahead. I call my buddy who is following me and say that there is a backup so prepare to get on the brakes. we come to a standstill, but i left a good 200 feet between me and the next car, with my roommate right behind me. less than 30 seconds after we stop, i hear screeching brakes behind me. my roommate and i both floor it, and soak up the 200 foot safety buffer we left real quick. on our left side, a minivan goes flying by, about 3 feet shorter than it used to be, and on the right side, an 18 wheeler flys by with most of the front end torn off. truck had crushed the van.

had i not heard about the backup ahead of time on the CB, i may not have been able to slow down early, leaving the large gap. in that scenario, there would be no flooring it out of harms way. there would have been one big chain reaction, involving who knows how many vehicles.

    sorry, long story.
