Interesting contradictions there. You'd like a stiffer suspension for off-road purposes, yet the heavy flywheel (slows throttle response and causes the hanging between shifts) and higher RPMs when braking are classified as negatives.

The heavy flywheel gives the engine more momentum and makes it harder to stall when performing low-speed maneuvers, which is an excellent thing. The downside is that it does take more time to get up to speed. (Newton's first law of motion)

If you don't like the RPMs hanging, swap out for a lighter flywheel. Just don't complain afterwards that the engine is prone to stalling off-road.

I'm not being a dick here. Just pointing out that there are compromises that must be made based on the vehicle's intended use.

You are now $.02 richer. :p

When I first read the it all for this thread I thought it was a good idea. Now I am not so sure, after reading all the posts, and adding my own, I feel depressed. I just need to get off work so i can go hop in my taco and get that good feeling back. I guess toyota did us a favour by leaving some options out and making us add our own modifications to personalize each truck to our own preferences and personalities.

FWIW. My $30,000 350Z didn't come with hood struts or engine bay light. The struts are just something that will crap out after 6 months anyway and the tiny hood light ain't gonna let you see squat at night in an emergency. You're much better off spending 5 bucks on a LED flashlight which you should have in any car anyway.

The 4x4 Taco I'm getting is 20 grand and I don't think it's that expensive. Especially since I will be buying in this crap economy which is good for me bad for them. The V6 models are as much as my Z was and yea think that's too much for any truck and would never pay that much for a truck. As far as no frills go, like I said, it's less things that can go bad down the road. Electric seats, power seats, electric mirrors, heated mirrors, power windows, all things that will crap out in and out of warranty.

I know I'm buying a truck and not a Lexus so the no frills thing doesn't bother me at all. It's just a truck.

Not much. Toyota bed mat, Toyota step bars, tinted windows, Toyota seat covers, Toyota all-weather mats, quart of Wild Turkey in the glove box, KelTec PT3AT in the center console, backseat full of old speeding tickets

i see what your saying, and i agree to a certain extent. i dont care about hood struts. i dont want heated anything or electric seats. my point is stuff tha should be standard such as mp3 cd player. like it was mentioned before, thats just software and wouldnt cost them anyting. locking glove box.... i mean come on, how hard could that be and cheap too. why is my friends 4 runner 4x4 switch illuminated but mine is not when they are identical. I dont want alot of frills, but some of their decisions dont make sense to me. i dont need a bed light but if they already have a light and wiring for the upper brake light, why not add teh bed light at the factory, it would only be a coulple dollars more if that. they just skimped on some little things that dont make sense.

    YES!!

Actually....for the $29,000 sticker, I'm surprised they don't have MORE stuff.

Not that I have time to care and look - but in terms of EVERYTHING people have mentioned in this thread...... Do the OTHER brands (trucks) offer all those extra goodies for the same price? Or no?

And if YES - then what are we paying for? Quality? Reliability? Looks?

I know it's a truck, and it gets treated like one. I just hauled my monthly load of 1600lbs of wood pellets, and 2 weeks ago I hauled a 79 Ranger 100 miles. On the way back I had a blazer with a plow on the auto transport. So it doesn't get babied, but it IS a tool. As such that tool should be as useful as possible.

That means having lights in the bed to see what I'm unloading or to use the tailgate as a work bench at night. And when EVERY OTHER truck on the market has a cargo light I feel there's no excuse for the Taco to not have one. Granted, the stock one would be useless now with my cap now, but it would've helped before with my previous bed cover.

Same thing goes for hood struts. I've had mine on for over a year now and they work as good as day 1. Also, the 79 Ranger we worked on had springs that still worked good. Same with the 80's series blazer, 90's Pontiac, and every other domestic car I've worked on. So it's not like they will crap out like you say. Do it right and they'll last the life of the truck. Try getting under the hood several times per month (or even week recently) for jumping cars, running an air compressor, topping off washer fluid, changing oil, etc and see how often you want to deal with that damn prop stick.

Cannot agree with you more.. I had mine for ONE MONTH and have a 1.5" scratch on the front bumper and connot think for the life of me how it got there. It was in the garage most of the time and there was nothing in front of it.

I can deal with all the short falls of the truck and I DO LOVE the truck but the paint really PISSES ME OFF!

Honestly the Price really isn't THAT bad considering I bought a base 1995 toyota pickup (pre-tacoma) extended cab 4X4 v6 for $18 grand.

    I got my 2008 DC / LB / Sport / 4X4 / tow package / capet package for $28,800 pre-T/T/L
