Should not have to do that.

Did you use the proper pin and spring?

Pointy end up, and I always add a tiny bit of quality grease. I like copper anti-sieze (Loctite C5-A). I've never had to cut a coil, but as long as the safety isn't loose you should be OK.

You didn't use a takedown pin spring on accident did you?

Or the BHO release pin and spring.
    Those are commonly confused.

No they were all separated in the colored bags and I didn't mix them up. The pin was facing the correct way. I just removed the pin and added a toothpick drop of gun oil on the track of the safety pin and it moves flawless now

The hole that holds the safety/select lever spring in Hogue grips weren't drilled down deep enough and gave me the same problem. Rather than cut springs I just drilled the hole a little deeper.

Gotta love bcm, ordered some stuff on the 11th and it showed at my house just now. They know how to get items to you in a timely fashion unlike some companies out there.

I have been reading reviews on both of these 16" uppers. The Stag looks to be a better deal since I am getting the charging handle, hand guard, and bolt carrier assembly with it for just a little more than the BCM. The reviews on both are really good it seems like so I am wondering if there is a reason I should opt for the BCM over Stag?

I dont think you could go wrong with either. I have the bcm bcg, charging handle and now their 18 barrel of which I just put on. But I'm sure stag is just as good for the price, I just chose bcm cause they had stuff in stock at the time.

well, i can tell immediately some differences between the two... the question is, which aligns w/ your desires?

    - the stag is 1:9 twist, the BCM is 1:7
    - the stag has a railed gas block, no front sight, the BCM appears to have a standard front sight base...

...so, do you have a preferences on these things?

Stags can be had with 1:7 twist you just pay a fee for that option.
    http://www.stagarms.com/information.php?info_id=13

Personally I ran a 1:9 with no issues with the 62gr speer ammo I used majority of the time. I went to a 1:8 when I just changed barrels.

I like the railed gas block on the stag because i can put a flip up front sight on it instead. Otherwise, i dont have any preference on the other stuff. I guess i need to read up on the twist differences. I do see that the more common twist is 1:7 though.
