I'm not as accomplished as many of the others here, but I just ran my 1st half marathon today and had a great time, I did not hit the wall at any point, kept a pretty solid pace on a hilly course and finished in 2:01, faster than I expected.

I loved it and look forward to running some more

    ^^Noice!

bought a new vest pack, Mountain Hardwear Fluid 6- it's a very svelte 9.5 oz (sans bladder- probably going w/ a Platypus Hoser 2.0 liter bladder (3.5 oz); it also has a lot of room for such a small pack- this will be my pack for long unsupported runs where I need more food and extra clothing

Looks like some decently hardcore runners in this thread. I've been running for about 16 months now.

(Some background on me) - Around December 2009, I tipped the scales at around 340 pounds. I had always been a bigger fella most of my adult life. I did drop a lot of weight back around 2000 to 2002, but I didn't make enough of a lifestyle change - and it all came back (with extra). In December of 2009 I was about a month away from hitting the big 4-OH!! I had enough of being a fat lazy guy, and I was really beginning to worry about the possibily of a serious decline in my health. I made a pretty large lifestyle change - and really found a way to make it work for me. I don't even think about it now a days - it's just the way I am. I'm now 42 years old and I've been, pretty much, bang on at 200 pounds for over a year now - with no intention of ever changing that. I play hockey several times a week in the winter - and do a lot of running year round (more so in the summer). I ran my first ever 1/2 Marathon last December in Las Vegas. It was a great experience - but I'll never do the Vegas 1/2 ever again (it was a total gong-show). I'm not a very fast runner - and being that I'm pretty new to the sport, I was decently happy with my 2:20 finish time.

Since then I've done a local 10k competition (I ran it with my wife - as it was her first ever run competition), and I did a Spartan Race just last month (5k distance). I did both of those just for fun, and to stay fit.

I'm currently training for the Victoria (B.C.) 1/2 Marathon this coming October 7th. My big goal over the past while was to try and finish the race as close to 2 hours as possible. I would be head over heels happy if I finished in under 2 hours, but that remains to be seen. I just did my longest training run today (21k), and finished in a time of 2:07. I'm very excited about that, as it's the fastest I've done the 1/2 Marathon distance so far. And I really didn't push myself super hard today either. I'm hoping that running down at Sea-level in Victoria with give me a little boost - compared to running here in Central Alberta. So I may just get close to that 2 hour mark. Either way, I'm happy that at 42 years old (and formerly a fat lazy 340 pound mess) I'm capable of running such distances - and living a new life full of sports and harder athletics.

    ^ bully for you Sir!

got to test the pack out Sunday w/ a 19 miler, the vest style pack carries great while running- no bounce, no jiggling and very unrestrictive w/ my arms

I had a full 2 liter bladder, some extra clothing and a few emergency bits- had lots of additional room; found the pack has two stretch side pockets that are big enough for 20-ish oz bottles- I put my camera in one and my cell phone in the other

    it's a keeper :D

had a great week running, started w/ an easy 6 miler on Tues, on Thursday I was going to run 6-ish and got to exploring and found a new trail and ended up w/ 8.5, Saturday was my long run of 20.5, the last time I ran this particular route was the beginning of July and I shaved 23 minutes off my previous time , I ran this morning and the first couple of miles were pretty shaky no doubt due to yesterday's run, but then I started feeling better and was back in the groove- ran 8.5 miles- 43.5 miles for the week, not too shabby

the temps have been absolutely perfect for running- low to mid 40's early, warming into the 60's by noon-ish; I've been running in a long sleeve shirt and a few mornings have had my beanie and gloves on- fall is here :)

Wow, really putting on the miles!!^^^^

I'm getting closer to my 1/2 Marathon (2 weeks from today). I'm really feeling ready now. My last few training runs have been great. One more week of tougher interval training, then it's on to taper week. Getting pumped!!

Dang, that is better than any of my halfs! (all THIRTEEN of them!)

    JK, congrats!

I was in Denver all of last week. For the week I ran 30 miles, but 26 of those miles were in the Mile High City. My first run, I thought for sure I was going to spit a lung! By Saturday I ran 10.5 miles over @ Washington Park, in 1:37.14! :) Of course, the fact that the Rock & Roll Full had the park as part of the course, meaning lots of free water, snacks, two of the live music stages and ALL THAT SCENERY ;), were available... :D

Speaking of Elevation. I'll be doing my 1/2 Marathon in Victoria, B.C. - Canada. It's right on the ocean (for those unfamiliar). I'll be running half the race on a road right next to the waterfront. I've been training here at my home City in Central Alberta. The Elevation here is listed at 2805 ft above sea-level.

My question is this. What kind of difference should I notice running in Victoria? Will it be real noticeable, or will I just notice a slight difference?

not sure how it works in reverse, but I can tell you that training at 3000' and then running at 9000' was definitely tougher

in your situation, worse case scenario you won't notice any difference, best case is you run like the wind :D

I'm not sure how I missed this thread, but it's nice to see other runners out there. I started running last August, before that I had absolutely no interest in running. I've always been a biker and a swimmer. Yesterday my long run was an 8.5 mile warmup followed by the Houston Texas running of the Bulls 5k. :)

I completed my first marathon last January, and I've signed up for my second Houston marathon this coming January.

The races that I like the best are trails. I'm signed up for two 25k's and my first 50k. The 50k will be at Huntsville SP in early December. I can't wait!

I can't wait to move back to Denver, so that I can pimp around all kinds of speed when running races back home in Tampa! :D
I'll be running my first 25K in October 20th. Pumpkin Holler, here in OK.

Well, todays olympic triathlon turned into an aquathlon. There was enough standing water and debris on the roads that the event staff had to cancel the bike. 1500 meter swim followed by a 10k. I waiting on the results to see how I did. I competed in the "clydesdale under 40" group.

I did my first triathlon a week ago. Olympic distance with a $300 mountain bike. It beat the crap out of me!

Have you done Olympic tri's in the past? Bummer the bike part was cancelled but great that they made the best of the situation and still held an event!

This past weekm dailymile shows that I ran for 31.7 miles for the week. More importantly though is that I did two 6+ mile runs were the splits were sub 8:30's! Man I can taste that sub 2 hour 13.1! :D
