I don't think we need to remove the bearing assembly at all, do we?

If you're going off that DIY, I think he just happened to be doing both for the purpose of the DIY. I think we can keep it in tact and just swap CV axles.

Pretty good instructions except for one thing, remove the large axle nut BEFORE you remove the tire with the vehicle still on the ground (if you can), that way you dont need to hold the hub from turning when you try to loosen it, that fugger is on there with the fury of GOD himself, lol.

I have done 100s of axles in these things.

Also, I am not that close to you at all but I do this stuff for a living, I can do it while you wait if you dont mind driving south for a while...I have a lot of OC customers that drive down to me all the time. I will do it for less than the shop you mentioned, but the drive will most likely kill the deal.

    Anyway good luck!

PM if you want my help

NICE! Thanks for the info and help, We're going to get started in a little bit. Im looking forward to giving this a try. I don't have a tq wrench, not sure if MATT does either but I do have an impact wrench rated at 160 ft lbs so maybe If we don't have one I can just let that sucker tighten it up. Can I get your number in case we run into an issue or somethin?

    remove the hub cover...
if yer wheels come with a center axle hub cover...
that would need be removed as well.

tho it can be done with the wheel off...
just need someone to press the brake pedal
while the nut is being turned off/on

IMO... breaking loose the axle hub nut... should be the first step of order

I would break it loose, but not take it all the way off so the hub and tire don't fall off when jacking the vehicle up. It shouldn't, but you never know.

Anyway, either will work. If the vehicle's already on stands, just have someone stand on the brakes for ya.

    UPDATE:

We did the job yesterday with the help of Jimmy (stmpjmper). The axle nut came off with very little effort. I used a 20" broken torque wrench as a breaker bar, and barely made an effort before the nut broke loose. We torqued it back to 160 ft lbs.

Only real difficulty we had was using the slide hammer Brad rented from Vatozone. It didn't come with the necessary attachments for the jaw puller, so we improvised with a set of pry bars. We ended up ripping the boot clamp off the front of the axle where it meets the front diff, and just used force until it slid out.

Very educational experience! Thanks again, Jimmy, and let me know when I can stop by to drop off your 35mm socket! :D

Yeah sorry guys I seriously lagged on updating. Matt couldn't have said it better. Great stuff everything went pretty smoothly and it passed about 200M road test. Now I just have to test it off road
Special thanks to Matt for helping me get it done on his birthday! I'm ready to pull another one off that was kind of fun. A hell of a mess though shit lol
