when you have a start button do you need to have a sensor or something for it work? Or it will just start the engine when you push it?

What do you mean by sensor?

Ehh I guess...but if you wire up that pop n lock might as well wire it to unlock with the doors

That when you're within the Smart Key detection zone range, confirming that you have the keys on you then it deactivates the immobilizer.

Yes I know but it would be better to just unlock the gate when you want and not hearing the loud sound of the pop n lock always you unlock the truck.

There's a module that you program your keys to that makes the truck "think" the key is in the ignition once the alarms remote start is activated...

Same alarm you would get for any car, only thing is that you need to add another module to bypass the manual transmission and only activate it when it knows your not in gear

I rarely ever use mine, bought my truck used and didnt even know I had one. Got home from a snowboarding trip last winter and was unloading the truck, had my keys on my pocket with a bunch of other crap, went outside and my truck was running in the driveway and thats how I found out I had one.

Now that I know I have it I will probably use it more this winter.

I love my remote start. I can see if anyone is stealing my truck or even touching it. it is awesome. i can start my car a mile a way and get there and bam my car is nice and ready to be driven. i can check my truck temp inside and set it to different car modes as well. example "valet mode". i had it on my first truck and was sad my yota didnt have it but ever since i got it i love it. Viper FTW!!

I don't have a remote start currently on this truck but I hope to get one here soon, even in the lowcountry and mild winters we get. I like my oil to warm up slightly before just driving off. But my '10 camaro had one and the wife's '10 equinox has one. Never had a problem with them at all. No thoughts of vehicle being stolen - doors stay locked until unlocked and the wife's battery just died after 3.5yrs and 37k miles on it. I don't see any chance for a vehicle being stolen with a remote start.
Good read though and thanks for all the info guys. I will probably shoot for the Viper 5901/02.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
I have a manual tranny and I have never really seen the point in them unless it is below zero outside and you want it to be warm inside the truck before you take off. No offense to anyone, but to me remote starters are just another stark reminder of how lazy Americans are getting. Makes me wonder what most of them would do if they had to DD an old carbureted car/truck for awhile.

My Kia came with remote start. I never use that shit. It's stupid.

Then again, I park in a garage. :D

Maybe if I had to park it outside I'd use it in winter, but I doubt it.

I miss the remote start that came standard on my last vehicle. Used it every morning in the winter.

Remote start is a way of life in Alaska.... everyone has one. Use it in the morning. Use it after work... use it pretty much any time you go to the truck and the engine is cold. Otherwise you get in the truck and windshield immediately frosts up from condensation and you sit there for 5 minutes in your freezing truck until it warms up. Or you try to drive completely blinded by they frosty windshield... not recommended. ;)

One of the first mods that I did when I bought my truck 3 years ago. I recently bought a fancy double din pioneer DVD/GPS/CD player which takes a few seconds to boot up. The auto start reduces my wait time and keeps my truck nice and warm. Its a WIN WIN!!
