i know I am in the wrong place asking this question

I have been debating on wether to buy my first Tacoma or buy another full size truck. The full size truck is a 08' F-150 4 door 4x4 loaded truck with just 6K miles. Beautiful truck with an "asking" price of $31,500. I haven't tried to negotiate yet. The Tacoma is a 09' White 4 door, 4x4, long bed with hood scoop and leather. It has grey interior, which of I am not a fan of. It has 5K miles and they are selling it for $29,900 non-negotiable. I found that to be highway robbery. the salesman tried to tell me that it is a $38,000 truck new and that the used car market is very strong and not soft. i told him in a nice way that he was full of it and that the trucks sticker price new was around $32,000. He told me I didn't know what I was talking about. Anyway, does that sound high and should I consider a Ford or Chevy? I know this is a very odd question but I am getting a little older and I am a successful business owner. i am just not sure if the Tacoma is too young looking. I am a hunter and take attorneys, doctors and other successful people fishing and bird hunting a lot so I don't know if the Tacoma would even provide enough room.

 

Double Cab Taco has plenty room. Course I'm biased but the Taco is where my opinion is to be had. I paid 36K on my 07 TRD OR in 2008. So depending on where you're located (You're using miles so I'll presume the states) that might actually be the used price.

Honestly stick with the import. The Tacoma is a sharp truck.

Chevy would be OK, but I say go with a 4x4 DC Taco personally, and not necessarily the used one.

 

Find a different dealer. Sticker on my 07 DC LB Sport was 32, I walked out for 27. They're trying to rip you.

As for the choices, the new Fords are nice, dunno bout the new chev's, haven't seen one in ages, but the Tacoma is comfortable and has plenty of room in it. You get a 3" lift on that baby and you'll feel like you're driving a full size. Good luck.

 

In feb 2008 I paid $23k for my 2006 access cad prerunner sport. Had 14k miles on it. Granted the 2WD knocked about $4k off the price, but $29k for an 4WD 07? Sound a bit stiff. I would look around a bit more with the Tacomas.

 

Yeh, they're trying to rip you off. I got a brand new loaded '09 4x4 DC Off-Road for about $27k before the $1,500 rebate. New trucks are cheaper than used. I'm curious about the leather too?

 

Find an F150 King Ranch. Those things are sweet.



Honestly, if you need a roomy cab, get the Ford. If you frequently have a full crew (4), you will want the extra space the F150 has. If you spend the majority of time alone or with one passenger, the Tacoma is great.

I was at the same crossroads 3 months ago. I went with the Tacoma because I like a smaller truck and only have my wife and 2 yr old daughter. I am 30 and like the ability to drive aggressively. Bigger trucks are a bit slower and won't handle as nicely. They also don't tuck into smaller parking spaces either.

However, you are looking at the long bed Taco. Those don't tuck into small parking spaces other but not because of their width but because of their length. They don't have the awesome turning radius the short box has.


I would never buy a GM or Chevy. Even if I liked the brand name, I don't like their truck options. Stay away from the Canyon or Colorado.

 

I don't know why Krazie think the Taco double cab has plenty of room because that's not entirely accurate.
It might have plenty of room for 2 medium sized adults in the front and 2 small adults in the back but not much more than that.


I traded down from an 06 F150 super cab. If it's room and luxury you'r elooking for the Ford would be a better choice. If you're wanting a truck mostly for yourself and to play in, I'd say the Taco is a better pick.

If you need room.... have you looked at the new Tundras. My friend as the 5.7 with a six speed trans and gets the same gas mileage as me on highway. There is plenty of room in the back. I just priced one otd for the same as the F150 you were looking at.

 

Cause I have an access cab and cramming people in there is like working magic with a circus car and clowns.

 

I looked at the 09 F150's as well as the Tacoma. I liked the F150 quite a lot and it was a pretty hard decision to make. You can probably get a similarly equipped F150 for the same price as a Tacoma with all of the current specials.

I went with the Tacoma for a few reasons. Slightly better economy, easier to drive, softer ride, better durability (Hopefully) and looks.

I wouldn't even consider a GM or Dodge. Ford is the only domestic that still has half a leg to stand on.

 

Yes it has more room than the access cab but I wouldn't say "it's plenty". It can still get cramped depending on the size of the passengers.

 

Moochers I say! Be glad they aren't riding in the bed with the dog! But seriously, if you're having issues, buy an Fj or a 4Runner and lift them.

 

There's no way it sells for $38K. According to KBB.com a new 09 TRD Sport DC LB 4x4 with towing package has an MSRP of $32K. If the used market is so great, buy a new one. You could probably get it for the $29.9K price he quoted and get the colors you want.
