Planning ahead for after my lift, looking at BFG T/A KO, Mickey Thompson MTZ, and Goodyear MT/R. Most of my driving is highway since im still a student so looking for something that rides well on pavement but also is really good off road.

Only the Mickeys are actual mud tires. The BFGs are an all terrain and the Goodyears are a multi terrain radial (hence MT/R). With that being said I think the mickeys are way overpriced but a member here is doing a pretty extensive review on them and should turn out good. Just search for "MTZ review" and it should pop up.

The reviews for the MT/Rs are mixed. They are good in certain situations but not others. I can't give advice on them because I haven't ran them.

With that being said I would get the BFGs. They are an all around good tire with pretty good wearing characteristics. I've personally ran 4 sets of them on my past trucks and love them.

BFG TA KO is not am MT it is an all terrain thus better on the highway then a MT.

The other two you asked about are MT's.

When asking what tires you should have on your truck you NEED to state what kind off offroading you do to get an educated answer back. Without such info you will get poor answers from people guessing.

With that said what kind of offroading will you be doing?

    Snow?
    Mud?
    Sand?
    Rocks?

IMO I would "guess" you need a good AT due to the way your question is asked.

yes i know the bfg's aren't m/t's. old logging roads, awful gravel roads, mud, and snow (we dont get much but when we do its pretty deep). not planning on a lot of sand but being in the mountains, plenty of rocks.

Your 'mud' is mostly wet clay right? I did great in NC with Duratracs, but some people say they have thin sidewalls for rocks. I can't comment on the sidewalls except to say I never had an issue.

IMO at your age unless you have a ton of cash I would go with a AT. MT's will not get as good mpg's and will wear faster. If your starting out 'offroading' take baby steps IMO. In 2 years if you up your skill level past the ability of the TA's get MT's when the AT's are bald. I personally have a set of AT's and MT's, both of wich are mounted on separate wheels so in the winter I can put my Snow rated AT's on and in summer I can rock the MT's.

clay as well as mud. my uncle had ta's on his old truck and they got through pretty much everything we threw at them so ill probably go with them. i have terra grapplers now and theyre good on road but off road they leave a bit to be desired.

I find the TGs are good for sand and rock, not so much mud or water.

take a gander at the Hankook RT03's...

fairly decent compromise between a mudder and all terrain tread.

and they ride better on the street then most other aggressive mud tires.

did I mention that they cost much less then the premium name brands ?

KM2's..... got 55k miles on mine so far, still a little life left. Pretty much the best tire I've ever owned, but they take alot to balance.
