Progressive Leaf Springs?

    While running this morning a random thought zipped through my head...scary I know.

    This is my first vehicle with a leaf suspension so I'm no expert on leaf springs...but I do have a question.

    Are the factory Tacoma leaf springs progressive? I'm assuming they are since they are a multileaf spring as opposed to a monoleaf spring. I figured since the leaf springs are different in length, then the compression rate will differ depending on the force applied to them...thus making them progressive. I could be making a wrong assumption here...does anyone know for sure?...or do I just need to shut up :confused:

    btw this is just a curious thought :D

    Interesting thought.

    I'm not sure about the first 3 leaves being progressive, but I would say that having the 4th overload leaf qualifies the springs as progressive.

    The overload leaf is a completely different shape and will make it much harder to completely bottom out.

    Thanks Chris...is it progressive due to the overload leaf as stated above or the design of the spring itself? (meaning a monoleaf spring would be progressive as well)

    Being a multi spring pack, it will be progressive in nature. Single leaf springs can be made "Progressive" if the thickness is changed through out its length (ie, the newer Corvettes have a leaf rear suspension).

    I think that it is the compounding of the multiple leaves. A single leaf spring would not have a progressive spring rate.
