She just needs to drive...And possibly create a distraction to get us into the service and reception.

If you mean rolling from the driveway to the slice of lawn next to the driveway then yes, it's absolutely rolling.

Snooki deservedly takes a lot of the blame, but the primary reason why we here in NJ cannot have nice things is road salt.

This used to be a nice setup and does not even have 15k miles on it.

The Fox aluminum shock bodies have been corroding since the first time I commuted in the snow with them on the truck. They've only gotten worse over time and I've been meaning to do something about it.

Does anybody know how this kind of corrosion can happen to aluminum?
    IMG_0518.jpg

    IMG_0523.jpg

In an effort to make things a bit more presentable and last at least another year, I decided to try refinishing the metal surface and painting the shocks. For now I'm only doing a single reservoir to see how it goes, but if it looks decent I expect to tear through all 6 shocks by the time I'm done.

I pealed all the sticker and went over the metal with a Roloc Scotch-Brite surface conditioning disc on my air angle grinder. It cleaned up quickly, and if I wasn't worried about the corrosion coming back in the future I'd return the metal to like-new appearance and leave it at that. Since I knew I was painting it, I just did a good enough job.

After prepping the metal and giving it a soapy water wash and rinse, I sprayed 2 coats of Rustoleum aluminum primer. This pic is just of the first coat.
    IMG_0527.jpg

For the top coat I went with Rustoleum aluminum. The irony of painting aluminum with aluminum color paint is not lost on me. :p
    IMG_0528.jpg

I definitely like the improved appearance so I'll move ahead with prep and paint on the rest of the this shock after 48 hours of drying time.

True to form, I'm back on jackstands.

I'll definitely let you know it all turns out. With a little luck nobody else will have to go through this mess!

Contrary to popular belief, aluminum does oxide...as you can see. Aluminum Oxide is actually a popular abrasive. It is the result of a galvanic reaction. All you need is an electrolyte and two dissimilar metals.
