Do you have a link to the products that you used? Is the wiring for the retro all "plug and play"?

I'm pretty good with lights and wiring, but I don't know anything about retrofits/HID.

If nothing else, a free bump for you.

It's sounding to me like he's got a couple of pins switched in a harness somewhere, or maybe the wrong harness to begin with.....but retrofits is one thing I haven't gotten into yet.

I am looking at this: It's the wiring schematic for an 01-04 Tacoma without Daytime Running Lights. Not sure if a 99 is the same or not. I would ASS-U-ME that it is the same. So, IF I am right about that AND IF you don't have DRL, that's how your headlights are wired from the factory.

There is one very significant difference in how the earlier Toyota trucks were wired for headlights. They have a constant positive power to the headlights whenever the headlight switch is turned on. Then the dimmer switch switches ground between the hi and lo beams. This is an odd way of doing things, and I know from personal experience that aftermarket wiring harnesses that work for a standard, non Toyota system will not function correctly with the Toyota switched ground system.

If you can link us to the exact same kit you ordered and installed, maybe me or someone else can tell you if you ordered the right parts for your truck. I don't see an application guide on their site that asks for what vehicle you have. That's a fatal flaw in getting this right from the beginning, and they need to add that.

    im understanding everything correctly?

did retros meanign running HID and now have to hook HID's for power and you went straight to the battery? Is this what you did?

If they are wired directly to the battery meanign that the lights are just all hooked up to the battery then your gettign power all the time and you are going to drain your battery as well, and if you didnt fuse anything off you could get a fire...

btw just noticed your 1st gen so hopefully anything that it say still applies....

Well I mean the hids aren't directly hooked up to the battery like there's not a wire that runs from the hids to the battery directly.the headlights are hooked up to the battery through a negative wire

okay lol was going to say that would be your problem, but it seems that you must of got the wrong pin or something but strangely i would assume that the pins would be powered off with the ignition like you said.

The positive side of the factory circuit goes off, the ground side does not. It's a screwy system, I once spent an entire weekend teaching myself all about it and building a custom harness to support high wattage halogen bulbs on my 86 Toyota. If he does not have DRL, he's got that same system that I messed with for two days.

OP, go back to the beginning and make sure you've got the right wiring harness. Otherwise you are going to spend two days messing with what you have and not get anywhere.

had this exact same problem and it's from not hooking your harness up right. i made my own harness, but here's what my issue was. i only used the driver side headlight plug for signals. so the truck wasn't getting a reading from the passenger light since nothing was plugged in so it thought i had a bulb out. the safety feature is that your brights are always on.

what i did to fix this is hook up a giant resistor to the passenger headlight plug. works like a charm. but since you're using the trs harness, maybe you forgot to hook an end up, because that's how it sounds.
