    That makes a lot of sense. Steel and aluminum, add road salt, and there you go. I have to start rinsing off my pile after wheeling trips.

    I spray mine with "Fluid Film" and it keeps all the rusting/corroding away:thumbsup:

    I have never seen parts with that little use look so bad even on a boat that see's salt water.

    I considered the fluid film approach as well. I'm gonna use that on the skidplates since I can't keep paint on those for more than a week at a time.

    That's my thinking too. Some driving in the rain would have at least given everything a good rinse. Sucks, but at least it's coming back to life! :cool:

    Has it been that long?!?

    That's an interesting thought with the zinc. Would that just attach to the frame? I've never seen it done on a truck before.

    It works well, thinks will look dirty because it holds some dirt debris, but when you spray it with some soap/pressure washer, comes out good as new.

    I use a "Rock Guard" with a layer of Tremclad/Rustoleum Paint, usually serves well, might work for you, :notsure:

    aluminum is highly reactive and will immediately form Al203 (which usually looks the same). However, It also corrodes really easy when its alloyed with certain other metals.....I can't remember which ones right now.....
    I work with aluminum everyday....well, when our lab goes back online

    but what you are seeing is the aluminum reacting with chloride (probably from road salt NaCl and CaCl2) and pitting, which, in the presence of oxygen, makes for some nasty corrosion
