Well I finally picked it up. 4x2 access cab prerunner, color is Pyrite Mica and it is awesome. I never thought I could say that about any vehicle but I love it. This is my first new vehicle as before I got wife's hand me down. Last vehicle I had was a 95 Saturn and the windows stopped working and it too about 6 seconds to go into reverse so this Tacoma is like a Rolls Royce in comparison.

Congrats on the new ride and welcome to TW.:)

I used to work for a company that made parts for Nummi, just curious, what were the problems at Nummi originally? Just a delivery problem maybe? I've heard they slowed their takt time way down.(this is the time it takes to produce a vehicle basically) This should be even better for quality in the long run.

edit: sorry, I reread and noticed the color slowed them too.

OK, I think my radio is DEFECTIVE. Reception is horrible... even when I'm within 10 miles of the most powerful FM stations in this area. The "ST" stereo light stays solid most of the time - but there is static in the signal and you can hear it definitely switching back & forth from stereo to mono. I really think it was better before the backlight went out and I had to whack it to get it to come back on. I think something blew. I now have a more definitive problem... tonight I went to turn the radio volume down a bit - twisted the knob and nothing happened. Turned it hard up & down and nothing. It's stuck at the current volume... won't go up or down. I tried turning it off & back on... switching bands, put in a CD... everything works except the volume control.

I'm going by the dealership tomorrow morning. I wonder if they have another radio on hand - or if they'll swap one in from another truck.

I have the same issue with mine. Have had 1 month and from day one the volume knob works sometimes and dont sometimes. The dealership immediately orderd me another one but never admitted to a problem. I found that if you power on and off several times fast and press harder than normal (almost hit) the knob, it will work for a while. I would not do this until they ordered me a new one.

Interesting... I've had mine just short of a month too (truck was built 12/08 in Fremont, CA). Maybe they had a bad batch of radios. At least I know it's not just mine. I'm definitely going to get the dealership to replace it.

I just asked here to see if anyone else was having the same problem. Obviously, I'm going back to the dealer. It's a brand new truck... I expect them to stand behind it and make it good.

As luck would have it, I got in the truck this morning and now the volume control is working again - like nothing ever happened - just like the backlight did. Great... now the dealership will probably say there's nothing wrong with it. I tried to call the salesman who sold me the truck but he's not in this morning. I left him a message telling him what was going on and asked him to call me back. He was very cool during the sale (probably the most pleasant new vehicle purchase experience I've ever had - and that's been a few). I even sent the dealership a nice testimonial email about the positive experience (and they posted it on their website) so I think he'll take care of me. We'll see...

    Welcome Aboard!

I am at about 1800 miles and ( knock on wood ) no problems. I am going to the dealer pretty soon to try and get the rear spring tsb done though. I still do not understand why the three leafs exist in the '09.

    Enjoy!

My dealer installed my replacement radio yesterday - and so far it's working well (but so did the original for a few days). The bad news is the tech who swapped it out also got grease on my seats and gouged the CRAP out of the trim at the top of the HVAC controls and the right vent pod while prying it out (apparently with a screwdriver). This is a brand-new vehicle that I've only made one payment on. I was not happy. The service manager was very understanding though - and has ordered new parts to replace the damaged ones. He also personally cleaned my seat with some Toyota branded upholstery cleaner and got all of the grease out (and let me keep the can of cleaner). I just hope they can manage to install the new parts without tearing something else up. Not impressed.

Mine did that a few days ago. The volume would not work. I smacked it good with my hand and it started working. If it does that again I will take it back to the dealer.

If it's like mine, it will. It will get more and more frequent. I would hit the power button off & on until it started working again. My backlight would go out intermittently too - but the two did not seem to be related. So far, so good on the new one - but the FM reception still sucks. I think the radio is just a cheap POS. I didn't expect it to be anything too stellar in a base-model truck, but I DID expect better than this. Disappointing, Toyota.

If reception is poor on the second radio I would suspect an antenna issue. My reception on my stock radio is actually much better than I had in my other vehicles.

a lot of the same Issues are happening from 2005 to date ,
What has Toyota done ? nothing !
If I spend $40,000 plus I should'nt have to fix their lazyness / cheap parts Rotten antenna housings come on.

    Thanks for letting me vent.
