Bedside Bottle Opener hardware

Going to install my bottle opener and want to switch out the included hardware for something a little more sturdy and element proof.

Anybody have advice on what hardware they used on a "starr-x" bottle opener. I'd like to drill through the metal post at the rear of my longbed and secure from the backside with nuts. (behind the tail light) Also would like to seal it off so no h20 elements can get into that compartment when raining or power washing the bed.

For the record, the tail light itself doesn't seal against the elements. It's only held in by a couple of bolts. When I removed mine, it was quite dirty in there.

 

Im doing this now.....great idea As far as harware just grab some plated hardware.............or stainless if you really wanna bling. Then grab some RTV silicone in black or clear and just spooge that shit on the back of the nuts and bolts on the back side........and the front if you can be neat.

I did the same exact thing when installing the bed extender brackets...........drill....bolt.........spooge.

Now you tell me where to order the bottle opener?

Lol, now that's funny! Sounds like a good strategy to use. I think I even have some silicone laying around from few previous projects.

I picked mine up on flea-bay. About $7. Actually stumbled across it on accident and like that it had my team name and since it's primarily for tailgating I bought it. Can't wait to install it today and do the "trial run" on it this afternoon/evening!

 

I'll further that by saying there are some really funny and clever bottle openers out there. Just do a search and you'll find some great options pretty damn quick. Pics when you find one!

Used a T-Slot nut 3/8-16 and stainless bolt.

 

I'd use stainless hardware so it won't rust. Otherwise, XXXX has some good advice on placement

 

Great input guys.....and since im righty........for almost all things...........I will put it on the driver side for ease. And good call on the placement. Gonna be hard deciding after just a short search.

XXXX, great point! That decides which side I'm using. Just picked up the hardware. Went with stainless steel for the long term durability and rust proof attributes. Will post em' up when it's finished. Time to throw on some tunes on the garage speakers, crack a cold one, and get to it!

 

Depending on how expensive they are, I'd rather buy one from you than Amazon.

 

Finished my bottle opener using some stainless steel hardware:


Slathered it and the hardware with some sealant although there is a factory hole already in the metal post/taillight housing so it kinda defeats the purpose of keeping moisture out. Didn't realize this until after I lubed up!

 

This is where I want to mount mine to prevent interference with my bed extender. Are those just self-tapping screws of some sort? Is it pretty sturdy?
