I did a search but that’s a lot of reading. I was going to wait for the movie but I thought I’d ask instead :)

My 1995 T100 (3.4L 5 speed manual 2WD) now has 305K miles on it and I average 21mpg with city and highway driving. I was thinking of getting a Gen2 Tundra but with gas prices the way they are I started looking at the Tacoma. What kind of miles per gallon can I expect with 4.0L Tacoma 6 speed manual 2 wheel drive? I would hope to get at least the mpg as my 17 year old T100.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
It will actually be worse. The 6 speed manual in these trucks is rated for 16-18 if I remember right while the auto gets up into the 20s. Do you have any pics of the old T100? That's some mileage, would like to see the condition it is in after all these years! Bet it still runs like a champ either way.

    I average 20-21 every tank...in winter I will occasionally dip below 20.

I averaged 16 - 19 with mine. I get consistently better with my current truck. And it's not a matter of not knowing how to drive a manual either. I had a Ford Ranger I could get 24 in.

Honestly, it depends a lot on WHERE you are driving. When I'm doing a lot of city driving, my MPG has been as bad as 13.5 .... highway driving I usually get about the same as Maticuno above, in the 16-19 range, depending on conditions. I will say even with the high amount of stop-and-go driving I'm forced to do, my MPGs have improved quite a bit as I've gotten more used to the truck and the transmission.

I had an automatic 4.0L (2005) before this one, and I'm probably getting pretty close to the same mileage, but the auto was, sadly, a bit better.

if you want to beat the mileage of the T100, either get the 2.7L or do some mileage mods to the v6 model (translation: remove some truckyness). A 6 speed in 2WD should reach around 20 mpg avg in stock form with just keeping under 2000 rpm + featherfoot mod.

I almost always beat 22 mpg with the 4WD in summertime but I drive the speed limit on rural roads, have redline synthetic gear lube most everywhere, run mobil 0w30 in the engine, keep skinny tires at 45 psi, and have a partial upper grill block.

The 6 speed sucks for overdrive rpm. It lets the engine spin about as fast as the 6 lug 2.7L models even though the 4 cyl has a 4.10 rear and the v6 a 3.73. Sadly the auto is much much better matched to the engine.

It does still run like champ but the paint is pretty faded. I'll snap a picture of it soon.

I'm an Amsoil dealer so I only use synthetics. In fact i have bypass filter kit on the T100 where I change my oil and filters every 25k miles need it or not.
I do have a heavy foot and I drive back in forth from York, SC to uptown Charlotte, NC to work so I get my share of stop and go traffic and I still get 21mpg on average. Maybe I'll just hold onto my truck for while longer. I can't afford to get less fuel mileage.

    Thanks,

IIRC the 6spd is only available in a 4x4 with the exception of the X-runners

Like others have said, the mileage is worse with the 6spd vs the auto.

With my 285's, 2.5" lift, Leer cap w/ roof rack and kayak saddles, and driving "normal" not driving like a complete grandpa. I'm getting around 15-16 mpg on average from my 6spd.

My highway mileage is usually worse than my "around town" mileage. Mainly because I refuse to drive less than 75mph on the interstate. If the speed limit is 65, I'm rolling at 75ish.

Still looks pretty good for it's age. Love old Yota pickups!

Forget mpg, you'll lose those sweet venting rear windows!

I wish Toyota still did that. Seriously.

That's a clean truck for nearly a third of a million miles. Up here most vehicles look twice that aged after one winter. Good call not letting it go.

Thanks guys. Maybe I'll hold onto to it a bit longer. Who knows maybe I'll give it to my son one day.

I usually get 18 all stock under hood and stock tires and suspension in summer. The winter drops to 16mpgs, however just went trip to bass lake area and got 21.1, pretty darn good to me...390 when light just turned on.

This pretty much exactly. I get about 18 all the time with a 2mpg drop for winter.

Good idea, kinda what I plan to do with mine if I have a kid some day. By then it will have a ton of miles on it, will be a good beginner ride for a teenager and cheap to insure. Plus won't have to worry about scratches or dents.

Slow down and it will be better. Hell, even at those speeds that's above average gas mileage in my book! People don't take into account how much harder the truck/engine has to work to maintain high speeds but it's pretty substantial when you stop and think about it. Especially if you have bigger tires, lift, or any other aftermarket add-ons to weigh it down.

You do NOT remember correctly. My truck is NOT 4x4, and is NOT an X-runner.
