I don't have the K&N but I do have the AFE Dry, which is almost the same thing. I bought the air filter for the fact that I was going to keep my Taco forever, so I wanted something reusable. I have the 2.7L and I do notice a little throttle increase and gas milage increase but barely noticeable.

And the guys above me are right, it took me like 20 seconds XD ...

For the most of us, I think we'll be keeping our trucks for at least 5 years, if not 10+ years. So I think it's a worthwhile investment.

I bought 3 oem's at $14.99 a pop. With the factory filter that is good for 120K with 30K intervals. But after reading the study which says no mpg benefit with dirty filter I've gone to 60K intervals. I'll get 210K for $45 and no oiling.

    Sounds a -little- better*.

Hasn't made any appreciable difference to my fuel economy or power.

I use them because they aren't that expensive (got mine for $23 for my Tacoma), are simple to maintain and last for the whole time I own my vehicles. They also seem to be less wasteful than the paper filters.

*Realize that better is a subjective term and that the 'better' sound is probably mostly in my head anyway.

Even the FIPK won't improve power or economy.

But both will allow more shit to get through the intake and contaminate the engine and the oil, scratching the cylinder walls on the way in.

i have a 2.7L and got a k&N because i was getting headers and an exhaust so i wanted more flow.... so I agree with neilvan that it sounds way better and i "think" i got a little quicker response but i also put a magnaflow on and header is tomorrow.....

BUT now i'm feeling  thinking of the :crapstorm: this filter is letting into my nice synthetic engine....

hmm i think i'll switch back to the oem... WTF am i going to do with this filter now then...

Look at the link in my sig.

1-2mpg is a normal variance from tank to tank depending on if it's a "clean" tank of 4 trips to work, or if my wife wants to go shopping on my Friday off (and yes, ONE DAY of putting around town maybe 30 miles can do that to a 300+ mile tank).

    5-15?

Maybe if you count trying to find a place to park, walking inside to get a beer, drinking it, getting another one, drinking it, then opening the hood and changing the filter.

You're assuming that the engine will last 10 years with a K&N feeding it a steady diet of dirt.

Well first of all, I'm not using K&N, I was just chiming in about reusable air filters.

And second of all, all air filters let in dirt, the amount varies with the filter. You want performance air filter = bigger holes = better air = more dirt. Kinda obvious isn't it?
