just cuz the car is a street racing car to one person doesn't mean it is to anyone who buys it. Its not like the movie Christine, the car isnt the problem. saying that the car is the danger is like saying guns are the danger..... its not the gun, its the person who pulls the trigger.

    its quite simple.

YOU CAN NEVER OWN A PERSONS MIND.

regardless of where the cars come from, somebody wants to race they'll get a car.

people still get raped, robbed and murdered. no matter how many laws we pass or people we put away its still gonna happen.

but when we find a person WE KNOW is doing wrong, we take away their "weapon"

now, if we sell that weapon to another person. that person also has a choice, (i.e. NHRA)

but the thing is, that person is innocent. we have proven them guilty of nothing. and they deserve as much freedom as any other innocent.

if they ALSO do something stupid, we'll know. they'll lose those rights

but we can never "decide" someone is bad because of their hobbies. so we have no right to destroy something because its previous owner was guilty of something.

Yeah...You wouldn't make it to the Supreme Court. As long as the laws that are used to seize the car are acceptable....Then the seizure is lawful. And as long as the disposition rules are outlined...Fair game...and there is no way that they'd hear your "case"

And I'd wager that the racers at least take notice...and voters are also folks on the road...and if they feel safer...Great!!

Trouble is, they could have killed someone by then. These cars cannot be sold, think of the liability that the police would carry selling a car which has obviously been modified.

dont mean to beat it down but i just think with the massive amount of debt we have in this country it would do us some good if we liquidated the cars. even if they were auctioned as a whole vehicle. Either way, the person who owned it should not get it back. I just think SOME money is better than no money.

they could kill someone anyways, with a differant car, with a bullet bike, with a gun over weed, crack, meth coke.

you cant assume you know what will happen. ESPECIALLY if you're the government.

innocent until proven guilty. that right belongs TOO ALL.

Guns have potential to protect you or others....A turbo charged car with NOS/Cams/etc etc is built to go fast. And the "ricer" style are notoriously used to street race.

Maybe we could sell them and have the folks who buy them submit to regular tech inspections and GPS monitoring...and then they can raise taxes to pay for that....and to pay for the inevitable law suits when that guys sells it to someone else who then street races it....yeah??

You can't assume to know what will happen...but you can't assume the liability for what might. If you destroy the car...All parts will be more or less useless and it will sold or disposed of as scrap. Sell the car and it opens the door to frivolous lawsuits that further drain gov't resources.

why not just do that? seems to me if you can afford to drop 40,000+ into a 25,000+ car, you could afford to pay a little more to the goverment for your ride.

dont quote me, but the only time they crush your car in cali is when stolen parts are found on your car. the vid is an example. i think the engine and tranny were found out to be stolen on it (no vins). they should have partedthose cars out instead of crushing them.

You would be wrong....Burn your mouth on some coffee and you sue the guy who handed it to you...His supervisor...the guy who owns the shop that sold the coffee, and the franchise that owns the name of the coffee shop. (You not meaning you personally...but the burned party in general if they are looking to make a quick buck)

After you drop all that paper work...the courts get to spend time/money sorting it out...Is it frivolous...yes. Should it work like that...NO....but it does.

Here's a thought, what if a buddy buys the car back from auction for the original owner? Aside from some possible jail time, fees/fines, and the cost of the car at the auction there's nothing stopping the original owner from doing the same thing again.

Although selling the parts would help if people were buying them, but really how many people buy the parts that go into a street racer for other applications? Chances are it would be other street racers buying the parts for cheaper than from a dealer or store.

Does anybody else believe elder people with poor vision and deer (or other similar animals) kill just as many people as "street racers"

Every time you get on the road, you take a risk. You might get hit, or you might be goofing off and hit somebody else. Or you hit a deer. Or an elder person or someone thats not in great health has a heart attack or stroke and loose control of the vehicle. You could easily get killed by that happening.

I know I'm gonna get in trouble for saying this, but I believe, to an extent, an 18 y/o driving a Civic fart can has more control of what he is doing than an elder person that can't see well.

There are risk everywhere and this just seems to be trying to fix one of the problems. I haven't seen a law about people with poor health and/or vision not being able to drive...
