Dangerous drug. Im telling ya. You dont think so but your body builds a tollerance and you have to take more and more. Took them for 4 years from my orthopedic and had a tough time stopping. Real tough. Be careful and watch yourself.

I've got a few patients hooked on them. God forbid you tell them you're going to cut them off - they get nasty quick.

I broke both ankles back in May...

I've gone 2-3 weeks w/o taking one. but I need them if I'm ever going to finish building our new home.

crawling around on the floor running baseboard and shoe moulding requires regular ingestion.

btw...I grew up in the 1970's and very aware of addictive opiates :D

Took me off slowly. From 120 pills a month to 30 . Some people have so much pain it scares them to go without.

Yes, pardon my language here buck FUCK a loratab! My ex (also my sons mother) got hooked on those damn things. I had no idea either, I just thought it was the economy and we were slowly going broke, but later I found out she was spending between 500 to 700 dollars A WEEK on those damn things. When I found out this was according to her, she owed her dealer 1700 bucks. It took many months and cost our son growing up in a broken home. The whole time she was on em she slept ALL THE DAMN TIME leaving me to raise our son myself, when she WAS awake she was extremely agressive and BITCHED nonstop. So yeah I got NO LOVE at all for any prescription drugs. If I was prescribed a pain killer right now, I probably wouldnt take em and try my damndest to live with the pain. I have seen first hand how they destroy a life, I would not want to put my family what I have already gone through.

Yep very habit forming. Indicated for short term acute pain such as post surgical. I start weaning my patients down to 5 mg tabs and then to none ASAP. Throw in some tramadol or tyl3 if needed.

Yeah constipation is the most common side effect. The usual drowsiness, stomach upset, itching, nausea are relatively common.

I think this is a great topic to discuss in an open forum. Many don't understand and aren't properly educated by health care providers regarding the addictive nature of opioids. They have surgery, suffer a back injury etc and are rx'd these meds and may really like the way they feel when taking them not realizing that physiologically and psychologically they are becoming addicted. So awareness is good. Hydrocodone is also very commonly abused by teens as a recreational drug often combined with other "pills" or alcohol which obviously can be very dangerous.
So beware, and use only for short term and wean down to NSAIDS or non-narcotic meds as soon as possible when applicable. I have high school athletes with mild injuries commonly ask for "hydros".
In patients with chronic pain such as with knee arthritis I do have some patients who use Lortab on occasion for flare-ups and they may go through a bottle of 30 tabs every 3 or 4 months and that's fine.
