Thanks guys! It's granite, I've heard the color called crystal white, ice blue, and artic cream at various places.

I don't do the cleanest tile work so I was thinking of trying the mat stuff that you stick the tile to for the backsplash area. Anyone have any experience with that stuff or should I avoid it due to the heat from the range?

 

I just finished a bathroom upstairs. Had to laminate the floor joists and re plumb the shower drain to 2" diameter. Took out the 1952 blue tile. Did subway tile in the shower and grey on the floor, Waynes coating on the walls and a pedestal sink. All turned out beautiful. Total was about 26K. We are very happy with it. I will get a pic up soon.

 

I just saw that stuff this week on the DIY show "I hate my kitchen." I was curious how well it works.

Using a pre-mixed mastic would be perfectly acceptable for a kitchen backsplash since it doesn't see a constand flow of water like a shower would. It's pretty easy to use. Just get some mosaic tiles that are all on one sheet. It goes up fast and easy.

I did a renovation where the cabinets for the house were $170K and the countertops were $45K

 

Yikes!!!! those cabinets cost more than my house... I did my own kitchen for 7k inlcuding appliances. But I got an insane deal on my cabinets and I did all the work myself. Nothing like 12k cabinets for less than 3k with a laminate counter. They were a display model but you wouldnt know the difference.

The cabinets were for the entire house , kitchen , dressing areas , office , 2 bathrooms and ensuite .

They were custom , plywood cases , full extension dovetailed hardwood drawers , Birdseye Maple and stainless steel fronts , the dressing area cabinets were inlaid with juniper ( aromatic cedar )

The countertops were 2 1/2" thick granite and marble

The clients are Canadian

 

I'm undertaking a project this weekend to divert the water runoff from my lot and 4 lots above me to the street. I am digging a french drain 2 feet deep at the top left corner of my lot and emptying it in two different directions. Here's a couple pictures The piping ends at the arrows near the street.





I buried drain lines for my gutters last year so I have some experience in this kind of thing, and I have already called before I dug. Any tips or glaring faults in my plans?

My advice is to lay heavy filter cloth ( not landscape fabric ) in the trench , extending up the sides of the trench , install your drain pipe and drain rock and wrap the works up like a burrito with the fabric on the sides .

This will prevent silting up of your system
