My new job requires that I wear steel-toe work boots...

I've worn regular work boots for the past 15 years...

I've never found a pair of steel-toe's that even felt comfortable in the store...

    I'm very picky...

I have a nice pair of ASOLO Fugitive GTX hiking boots that are the most comfortable boots I have ever worn, but obviously they are not steel-toe...

I've had dozens of the CAT Alaska work boots, and I like them, but I've tried the CAT steel-toes, and no luck...

I get a $100 boot allowance from work. I don't want to spend much more than $100-ish (my ASOLO's were $125 marked down from $185)

    Take me to school...

I got a pair of wolverine COMPOSITE toes for my job. The composite is very light and strong, and it doesn't suck the heat out of your toes in winter. They were $125 and the county footed the bill. Gore tex as well and they held up 3 years of work and early season hunting. I still wear them but they arent waterproof any more

I have always had good luck with Red Wings. Trust me, its worth spending a little more when you gotta wear those bad boys all day. I'm with dgerm, composite toes are nice. But the socks you wear also make a big difference. Just a thought.

Do you know if they are considered the same as steel-toe?

    How are they size wise?

Yeah, I'm not new to wearing boots all day, and I wear good quality socks...

    Any specific Red Wings boot?

How do they run size wise?

The composite toes meet all the OSHA standards.

Red Wings are nice boots...Air Wair/Doc Marten makes some good boots too. I spent about 180 on my last set because wearing them all day...You get what you pay for.

Yes, look at our truck beds, they are composite and stronger than steel :)

I got size 13s and they were VERY comfortable

I've been wearing steel toes for the 33 years I have worked at this plant, so I have worn just about every brand made at some point. I prefer Wolverine or Red Wing. None of the steel toes are as comfortable as non-steel toe. They even make steel toe sneakers now. Thats what most people wear now.

Don't think I have ever seen Georgia brand around here. Maybe they only fit southern rednecks? :D

I was VERY surprised to this type of post here, but am glad I did! I am in the safety business for over 20 years and have worn many types and brand of work boots, including steel and non steel toe.

My suggestion is Timberland Pro series Titanium toe. This is by FAR, the most comfortable :D work boot I ever had and the cost in most stores (Work n Gear, Sears, Bob's etc.) is $130.00 (NOT on sale). This boot is lighter than steel, does not get as cold as steel would during the winter months.

Other colleagues I work with have tried them out and also feel the same.

    Good luck!

    Bob
