Brakleen

My brakes have been squealing for a while because I decided I could make it through a mud hole that was *offuckingcourse* deeper than I thought it was going to be. Determined to get the squealing to go away, I went to Autozone tonight and purchased some CNC Brakleen (non-chlorinated formula) but after reading about it I am a little confused. I have read where people spray the pads, calipers, and rotors while some people recommend removing the calipers and pads, and other people just spray around the pads and rotors.

As you can see I have never done this before so any good advice is appreciated.

EDIT: The can reads not to spray rubber surfaces, but some people say it is OK. This is where I am confused. It is not my pads because I changed them not too long ago.

 

Does anyone have any recommendations on any disk brake cleaner?

 

I use Brakleen every time I do a brake job or bleed. I dose the whole assembly pretty well, rotors, calipers, pads, basically everything after the steel line. It washes the oil residue off the brake components and washes off the brake fluid which is highly corrosive. I would hose the crap out of them first, the squeeking might just be dirt between the pads and rotors or a small rock wedged in the crack between the pad. Drive in reverse and hit the brakes, sometimes that can free up some debris and rocks. Brakleen is more for washing off oils and brake fluid.

 

I am really hoping it is just dirt/grime and that this will solve my problem. After I spray everything down should I hose it off afterwards?

 

No need, it evaporates quickly. One more thing, wear safety glasses, you don't want that shit in your eyes. It burns really really bad!

Brakleen is a cleaner degreaser. We use it all the time at work.

You can't just spray it on and expect it to clean. It is highly flammable and evaporates quickly. What ever you're spraying, you need to wipe off.


Don't get it on painted surfaces because it'll mess up the paint & finish.

Have you tried going in reverse and putting your brakes on? Sometimes you'll get tiny stones & debris in there. Reversing can help dislodge it.

Other than taking all your pads off and wiping everything down with Brakleen.

 

My pads and calipers were pretty caked so I have decided that this is the reason my brakes sound like wild banshees. Sprayed the hell out of them with the Brakleen which stopped the problem for a while but it seems to have come back already.

Also check the dust covers, they can get out of whack, start to rub and then squeak and grind. Packing them with mud pushes they around easily
