This may sound like a stupid question, but how much more bass will 2 subs put out compared to just 1? I know the obvious answer is twice as much, but I'm asking b/c I've always only had 1 and have been pleased with the bass level. Now with the Tacoma it seems that the majority of boxes out there are for dual subs, especially to get one with a spot to mount your amp. I would much prefer to have my amp mounted behind the seats rather than under the front seats.

I've got to buy a 2nd amp to power my sub anyway, so I'll have enough power for 2 subs. My only fear is that I don't want the bass to be so strong that it's all I hear. I like a crisp bass tone, not a booming one.

    Any tips or suggestions???

A Tacoma doesn't have that much room in it really, so I'd say one sub. I have just one, and it is plenty loud for me and a car or two around me.

Was going to go with 10". Not sure of the brand was just going to shop around for a good deal.

Good way to describe it...I prefer the bass to hit and not to carry.

    k

that is ex what i was talking about ! hit

i would start by saying one is fine deff for a small truck and you are not looking for that rattling base like in the cady!

cheap i would go with a pioner , you can get from walmart for 60 bucks, or if you want better jl audio is nice and not to much, you will have to check the air space needed for what ever speaker you get !

then is a matter of a little math, fig up the shape and size of the box!
if your building your self, other wise look for a prefabed box that fits under or behind the seat, with the air space you need, if its for tow just put some wood over one hole and call it good!

for the base you want the HIT , you want a sealed box , not ported, truck boxes are fine they do well, no band pass or any thing like that just a simple sealed box with the exact air space you need , a little more no big deal but not less !

also i would not run more than half the watts the speaker is raited for , that is just me it a how long will it last kinda thing , and you should have the sound you want that will last !

when you hook it all up keep the gain on the amp down, ,, , , , , ,, turn the radio up to wher you would like it , you know as loud as you would if you wher jammin you know , then start to turn the gain up on the amp and when it starts to distort or sound a little off, just back it up a little and that should be a good setting !

any way i am just rambling , so this is what i have done , had many systems and this keeps it clean and simple!

Thanks for the advice man. I actually thought about just getting the dual box and using it for 1 sub, but figured if I had a spot for another why not use it? I can get a dual box made for the Tacoma for $89 shipped off ebay. I'm sure it's not the best box in the world, but considering a similar box from ********* or mr. marv will run you $250, maybe I can deal with it.

2 subs with the same power as 1 will theoretically be 3 db's louder and 2 subs with twice the power will be 6db's louder. In any case the only way for the bass to be "so strong that it's all I hear" is a matter of the level between front speakers and sub(s), not necessarily the quantity of subs (in other words you control how much bass output there is in relation to the front speakers by way of the sub level control and/or gain control :)). Also, Tacomas exhibit a healthy amount of cabin gain and IMO one "good" sub in the proper enclosure of course will be more than enough for most people. Almost forgot, your midbass plays a HUGE role in getting that "crisp bass tone". :)

this is true like alot of the 4door trucks , with my truck the 4door, you can roll one back window down doing about 60 on the hwy and you will see what he is talking about , you get that resinating tone like a woofer!

any how one i think would do fine !
