    Hmmmm... I have 35k miles and have not done this! :( I have a normal open diff does that make any difference? I guess this is my next DIY!

    Dealer computer is wrong. Its 15,000 miles.

    If you have an open diff, its the same, just no need for the LS addative.

    I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
    Not sure if anybody will be interested but to 100% stop LSD chattering with Synthetic oil (Valvoline 75W-140) one needs 1.5 bottle of Additive from AMSOIL. That would be 6 oz. I am so happy to finally have Synthetic in there. No more worry about burning the clutch pack out :D

    I tried everything (Except the Amsoil) from 4 oz, to 12 ozs.....how many miles do you have with that oil and addative combo?

    modified total chaos uppers and lowers... king coilovers, deaver leafs, full cage, 351w motor swap, etc..
    orrr get a gear driven limited slip or a true locker... no clutch packs to wear out... ever :)

    The reason for changing it regularly is to reduce metal fillings waring down your rear end gears and seals.The more metal you take out of your diff oil the better.You should also take a small magnet and put it through the oil after its dumped and check for metal pieces from gears etc.
    I do this in my engine oil to.

    Yes the plug does have a magnet in it but it doesn`t always pickup large pieces.better safe than sorry.

    Get 7 quarts total. I think the rear is 2.8, Front is about 2, and the transfercase is about 2.

    Great write, up the only reason I found this thread was looking for what size socket I needed that I had to go buy..the monster 24 mm WTF were they thinking..I wanted to run the amsoil, but the valvoline was soooooooo much cheaper it just felt good spending that much money.

    Seen 'em at boating supply stores. And in boating section of Bass Pro Shops I eyeballed one in person. Pricey though.

    Also, I think Amsoil sells one.

    I went to AutoZone last night to pick up a few things and the Mobile 1 75w-140 there was $18/qt! I didn't buy anything b/c they didn't have the
    $29 75w-90 Synthetic Gear Lube - 1 Quart (Pack of 2)
    75w-90.

    Was it super-expensive b/c it was 75w-140, or is Mobile 1 here just way too expensive? (I haven't made it by wally-world yet, but I will soon.)
