You use to have to pick it up at their hubs, but not anymore.

Fed Ex will let you have it held at a FedEx/Kinkos if you want and UPS will do that with their Box Stores. You can just go online to their websits and see if there is one close to your house by zipcode. Most of those are open later or in a downtown area if that is where you work.

You can do this before the actual delivery date if you want. It is an option that will say "hold at this location" or something like that. Then you pick one.

That, or you can get in good with your local driver :) Our UPS driver was awesome and would swing back around for a 2nd attempt later in the evening if he thought I would be home. He also would not leave something that he could without signature if he felt uncomfortable doing it (something that looked expensive or something that someone might just take by the markings on the box). It may sound odd, but I really appreciated him doing that.

Our FedEx driver on the other hand was usually an ass. I caught him multiple times just running up and putting the slip up on the door that said no one available and running back to his truck. Not even trying to to make contact (knock/ring doorbell) so your mileage may vary.

That's cool, it is at least a little easier than trekking to the big place down by the airport! Still, seeing that damn "we missed you!" slip on the door is frustrating. Especially when you've been home the whole time.

Runner's High: how far do I have to run, anyway?! I run on Oakland streets, it's not like there's not ample other ways to get high but here I am sweating like an idiot. I just started a few weeks ago when my ortho surgeon gave the all-clear and I'm still not sure my heart and lungs are gonna stay in my ribcage instead of jumping ship.

In my opinion, there is no real set distance. It all has to do with your physical and metal conditioning and the goals you are setting for yourself. Some love it, but I do not

Me, I am not a big fan of running, but I have to do it and maintain at least a certain level. I know I can mentally talk myself in to doing less than what I am physically capable of and doing the opposite where I can physically wear myself out pushing when I could have paced and did more.

I've had the high at the end of a run where I exceded the distance I planned to go, but felt I just wanted to keep running. I've had it in the middle of the run where I wanted to just stop, but had other reasons to keep going (mostly ego) and keep it up. I've also had other times where I just hit a pace that I felt I could run forever and not even worry about the distance.

I'm sure there are some physical studies on exactly when you might hit that "runner's high".

If you love to run, use your physical limitations to guide you. If you hate it, your mind could limit you more. :)

Pick a distance that you might feel comfortable with, then half that and work your way up.

Why does everyone always make it seem like going to Oakland is like going to Mordor?
