    they are factory :)

remove tail light, wet sand with 2000grit, clean, dry, tape off back up/park/brake light, nite shade 1-3 coats for desired blackness, untape, PPG clearcoat, reinstall.

total cost $20. if you dont have a gun to spray a quality clear i'd pay a bodyshop to clear them. will never get chalky or fade like aerosol clear.

ebay... not bad for $20. i took a little time to counter sink my tapered allen bolts in and to improve on the bottle opening part (where the 2 castings were put together there was a seam that restricted the bottle cap from getting where it needed to be). took maybe 30 mins with a dremel to get it in perfect working order with a real clean install. Used all stainless steel hardware.. and the moose is cast iron

Red is actually best for preserving night vision. Astronomy hobby and pro level telescope electronic controls have red displays and red LED flashlights are marketed for stargazers.

Anything other than white is going to cause problems reading some colors.
Even under a street light digging in a pull box, you can't discern a white neutral from a yellow signal conductor... and older, slightly faded red, will also look white.

Here are a few pictures of my Lower tie downs I installed, plus a few on the tailgate. The fittings pull out when not in use.

    None yet. Thinking small lift.
I am well versed in reading maps under red light. If you need to see directly in front of you or see detail you need red.* The center 1.5% of your retina (the fovea) which provides you with most detailed vision is packed almost exclusively with red sensitive cones. This is why a majority of gauges are red/orange.

    Just some food for thought.
