Today I gave a younger couple a ride to the local park because they said they needed to be there at the top of the hour to meet some of their friends.

I've never been approached for a ride before and they seemed innocent enough, but I've read about the potential dangers involved in giving strangers a ride. With that said, I decided to drive them about six blocks to the park.

We had a nice chat for those couple of minutes and they were appreciative and polite, so I felt like I did a good deed for the day.

Just wondering if any of you TW members have ever given strangers rides?

no way..You don't know who you will come in contact with. I have been approached by a few people, but always decline.

On the other hand, thats how some of those dirty movies begin..

I was at one of my stores and a gentleman in a suit came up to the desk & asked to use the phone - He was in a company van & it had broken down in out parking lot.
He was unable to get in touch with anyone and had to get back to his office so I offered him a ride.
Turns out he runs purchasing for a Company that houses mentally disabled individuals and buys a lot from HD.
That was my good deed for the day. :D

Not always, but if I'm feeling like it and I don't have anywhere to be immediately I will.

I pick people up all the time, and if I'm in my uniform people tend to be nicer to me. Plus I'll cut them like a turkey if they try anything. Besides...why would you fuck with the person who can put the very vehicle your in around a telephone pole on the passenger side?

If your in uniform, alot of people would want to cut you as well..I know theres a town by me, they HATE the fire department, set traps in houses at times..EMS, they will help them bring the stuff from the rig to the scene if needed. People are stupid:rolleyes:

I've never picked up a hitchhiker. a couple years back there was a few incidents where hitchhikers on the north end of town (trying to get back to the reserve) would pull knives and steal the vehicle.

I never have, and never well. Maybe back in the day. But in todays society, you just don't know. It's not like someone that is going to rob and kill you is going to be wearing a shirt that says "I kill people who give me rides."

Having worked around enough people coked up on drugs I can honestly say I'm not picking up someone who looks like a meth addict.

    Just sayin'...

I'll give people rides. If I feel at all I couldn't handle the person or something is wrong I always play it as safe as can be, but I'm willing to take the risk that my fat neighbor walking to the bus stop or the tiny single mom down the road who doesn't have a car to get to work won't shank me. And if they do, I'm packing too . . . It's a little easier to do here in the Midwest than when I was out in Cali

On base if I see someone walking in uniform, I'll gladly give them a ride (been in those shoes as an E-3 with no license or car). Off base, not so much...don't trust anybody anymore...

I've only given one person a ride. I saw a BMW with a tire missin on the side of the road, about 200 yards later a saw a nicely dressed man pushin a flat tire. I stopped and picked him up but he insisted on Ridin in the bed. I took him to a tire shop and he threw me a 20

    neglect, mostly.
i've given a few rando peoples rides before. one of the more sketchy times i was at a gas station and a crackhead looking dude walked up and said "which way you heading man?!" the station was at an intersection and i took a chance and just pointed at the direction i was really heading. he said "cool man! can you get me down the road about a mile?!". before i could answer he was in the passenger seat lol. turned out to be a friendly fellow and we talked music for the ride as he saw my guitar in the back seat. he did end up pointing a gun at me and taking my money, but i like to think he used it for a good reason like feeding his kids or something.
just kidding, he thanked me and went about his way.
