    In the 1st gens the stock lights are not LED but you are right about the film... not sure what it would look like without the film. I replaced mine with LEDs from superbrightleds.com.

    Its not that hard really. I have done it a few times now so it is nothing new for me but i use this every time. http://www.customtacos.com/tech/index.php?article=77
    there is only like 1 screw that is not noted in that write up.

    I like this idea. Especially since after i rolled the truck and drove with no rear view mirror for a long time i liked out the full wind shield was open. I wonder if you could mount it lower tho..might be kinda cool..

    So do I, just never seen the entire mirror replaced with a screen. Are there any backup camera kits for vehicles that are not originally equipped with one?

    Well you can get ones that are a mirror that have a screen built in behind it that clips over your OEM one thats only 7'' then when you engage the reverse that LCD lights up.

    Yea yea you can buy lots of kits or piece one together pretty easily.
