I just finished the rebuild of my1997 2.7, bored it 60 over, hooked it all back up, and now its acting like its not getting fuel. It will run if fuel is sprayed into intake from a water bottle, fuel injector wires are getting power, its getting fuel all the way to the fuel rail. My last thought is clogged injectors, but i dont want to go spend all that money if its something simple that i missed. i checked the fuses, the fuel pump is pumping, am i missing something that would make the injectors fail to open? OBD2 isnt throwing any codes, so other than replacing the injectors, i am at a complete loss right now. is there a way to clean injectors, other than that stuff you can pour into the gas tank? any other thoughts out there?

nope, its like its not even trying until the fuel is squirted in from a bottle, as soon as you stop squirting, it stops running

all i had was a multimeter, i hooked it up to the injector wires, it didnt read numbers, but the lines on the bottom were twitching (pulsing), so i assumed they were getting the power they needed. i dont know if the injectors themselves are doing anything.

This is probably extremely dumb but once my professor removed the fuel rail from an engine on a test stand and cranked the engine to see the fuel spray from the injectors. It only sprayed a little into a catch pan but it let me see the spray from each injector. If you're ballsy I suppose you could do this. Just be prepared for a fire as a worst case scenario.

haha, yeah, thats a thought. and remember, im squirting fuel out of a water bottle sideways into my intake... i already started one fire this weekend, maybe ill try your idea tomorrow. and i just looked up the price of cleaning/testing injectors, in case anyone is curious... around $16-20 per injector, depending on the shop. and by the way, new injectors from toyota = $168 EACH! be careful with your injectors people... these things can get expensive!

Come on, someone out there has a better idea of what's going on, don't make me spend all my money on injectors...

    hmmm..

double check your timing is what id do. They are non interference motors so there won't be a dead give away.

Get your injectors tested. its pretty cheap to do actually and that'll let you know if they are shot.

You won't really be able to test them yourself unless you do the above method.

Im willing to be its timing issue tho. That, or you wired the injectors in the wrong firing order..

I used to have a a TRD supercharger on the Tacoma, converted back to NA when I bought the Tundra. The SC was tons of FUN!!!
I keep a supply of empty p-nut butter jars around for situations just like this.

Pull all the injectors from the intake manifold but keep them electrically connected. Grab 4 jars. Insert an injector into each jar. Have a assistant crank the engine several revolutions. You should be able to see the spray pattern from each injector, then measure the amount of fuel in each jar.

Do this in a well ventilated area.

If you suspect the injectors are clogged, remove them from the fuel rail, again, keeping, them electrically connected and spray carb cleaner backwards from the output side while cranking the engine. This will dissolve any built up gum and shoot it back out the input side.

I've also soaked injectors in n ultrasonic tank if they've been sitting a long time, prior to performing the above task.

Whatever you do, don't use high pressure compressor air to blow them out, you'll destroy the fine mesh micro screen that's inside.

Another thought ... how old is your fuel filter?

i think im going to try that. i just finished mowing the lawn, so i can now move on to something interesting. thats all great advice that ive been searching the internet for all last night. ive been looking for a place to have them tested but it seems no one around here has that kind of machine.
i do wish i had an ultrasonic tank, that sounds like the cure if they are clogged. and im glad you mentioned the compressor air, that was going to be one of my next options. fuel filter is brand new. toyota says the original is a "forever filter" but i think after 150,000+ miles, it was probably time to replace it anyway. alright, ill let you know how it goes

If you multi meter isnt reading numbers, you arent getting power :notsure:

I think its safe to say your fuel injectors are not working. Even if the timming was off, etc... you'r engine should be combusting somthing. The fact that your spray bottle ( <=) is working pretty much confirms that...

well, i tried the jar idea, nothing coming out, carb cleaner, nothing. i still cant find anyone in my area that professionally cleans injectors, but i did find a website that will clean and inspect and send them back with a full report for 18 bucks apiece. i guess the question now is do i send them in or find some at a junk yard... decisions, decisions...

the multimeter wasnt showing numbers but i think the power to the injectors is so quick that my fluke didnt have a chance to read it. when you crank the engine with the multimeter attached, though, it does show little bars at the bottom of the screen getting bigger and smaller in a pulsing motion, as if its trying to calculate power but cant keep up with the pulses. since it is showing something, i think i verified it has power and narrowed it down to the injectors being clogged. but, i guess we really wont know until i get some cleaner injectors in there.

Injectors are not dirty. They would def spit somthing out, even if clogged.
Ahhhh, IC. Something must be wrong with the fuel system then; seem like you are getting enough fuel pressure to the injectors.

Try disconnecting the filter and putting the fuel hose into a bottle and see how much fuel comes out there. Id wager nothing comes out... Edit, check the voltage to the pump. Im not sure but I believe it should be 12V (if not, 24V).

Probably somthing wrong with the pump or a kink/leak somewhere in the system.

Pump is working, with the filter disconnected the fuel starts flowing out like a water faucet when I crank the engine. It has to be the injectors... Either they aren't opening, or they are clogged. I'm sending them to "Injector RX" in Texas. They clean and test for $18 per injector. I figure at the very least, I should have like-new injectors by the time this is all said and done.

Is your crank sensor getting a signal? No signal, no injector pulse.. Also, Check your fuses for the ECM
